Victoria 'Plum'

I wondered what you all thought of the name Plum, as a nickname for Victoria. Have you met anyone with this unusual name before? I recently met someone with this nickname, and I think is the first time I have heard of it! It struck me as quite odd at first, but she is very sweet and can pull it off. So I was wondering whether this nickname was more common than I think, and your thoughts on it.

Is she a bath?

peachypetite · 27/12/2017 22:24

It's a brand isn't it

PurpleDaisies · 27/12/2017 22:24

Awful.

WatercolourFlower · 27/12/2017 22:25

That was my first thought when meeting her - the bathroom company! I expect she gets that a lot though 😂

Eh? Surely plum is just a pet name?

Like pumpkin, flower etc

WatercolourFlower · 27/12/2017 22:26

I was speaking to my friend about the name earlier, and she said she knew a Victoria plum (not the same person I know)...this inspired me to start the thread, I wondered if it was more common than I previously thought!

This is a real 'nickname' as opposed to one of the common diminutive names such as Harry for Henry. I expect it is because of the well known variety of plum. But it is not something that is going to be common for girls named Victoria.
The other well known person with the nickname Plum was P.G Wodehouse Grin

YoungBritishPissArtist · 27/12/2017 22:27

IMVHO, I think you'd have to be quite posh to pull it off, e.g. Plum Sykes.

honeysucklejasmine · 27/12/2017 22:27

As well as the plumbing merchants, it's a species of plum commonly grown in gardens. I imagine the source is that, rather than the baths.

It's quite eccentric. But then, my brother's nickname at uni was "Roundabout", so... shrug

ourkidmolly · 27/12/2017 22:27

It's reasonably commonly say. Plum Sykes is a famous one. Victoria Plum was s sort of Holly Hobby character wasn't she?

WatercolourFlower · 27/12/2017 22:28

Yes it is a nickname technically, but it is also her middle name I believe...it is what everyone calls her apparently!

Victoria plum!

soundsgreektome · 27/12/2017 22:28

Victoria Plum was a whimsical book character in the late '70's. Before the bathroom place!

Ceebs85 · 27/12/2017 22:28

Well I never!

Really? I never knew the nickname Plum was popular 😂 I still think it is quite a sweet name, I don't think I'd be quite brave enough to actually use it though!

x posts all over the place. Strangely the book seemed to have been written by Angela Rippon!

Tedster77 · 27/12/2017 22:32

I’m a Victoria and yes Victoria PLUM is a ‘holly hobbyhorse’ type character from the 70s/80s which came from a type of plum tree. Victoria plums are a very much sought after fruit!

Victoria PLUMB - the bathroom company - is a play on this.

Rainbowmother · 27/12/2017 22:41

There's a journalist who writes for some newspapers and women's mags called Plum. Cute nickname

blackdoggotmytongue · 27/12/2017 22:48

Yeah I would just be imagining a giant bonnet and no face. It’s all a bit 1970s Holly Hobbie for me.
But yes, dead posh gals can carry off ‘Plum’ - it’s reasonably common in a certain set.

victoire1208 · 27/12/2017 22:49

I'm known as Plum by 1 grandparent. I think it's sweet if it happens naturally but to prescribe it is a bit weird imo.

kangaroojoey · 27/12/2017 22:49

Ive known someone known by plum when their name was Victoria. Suited them

thepatchworkcat · 27/12/2017 22:53

This was my first thought.
