Stevie??

We are expecting our first DD next month and DP wants to call her Stevie. It's certainly not what I would choose, but it's the only name he seems to like. He is extremely fussy when it comes to names and won't consider any of the names I have chosen, even for a middle name.

Is Stevie really awful? And what middle names would suit it?

I know one Stevie which isn’t short for anything, and another Stevie which is short for Stephanie. Do you prefer Stephanie? Would he consider that?

Wenchelda · 24/12/2017 13:01

I used to know of a little girl called Stevie. I'd never heard of it as a girls name before - I think in this case she was named in honour of a male relative who'd sadly passed away. It wouldn't necessarily be something I'd choose but equally didn't seem strange either.

Callamia · 24/12/2017 13:03

Stevie is ACE.
Stephanie, Stefania; both sound cool with Stevie.

I want a girl called Steve, because of the Paul Temple mysteries. Although, she’s not actually a Steve, so erm... I’m not entirely sure what point is here.

timeforachangeithink · 24/12/2017 13:05

I love it. No need for a middle name.

NinaBeBrave · 24/12/2017 13:15

I like Stephanie! DP doesn't mind it as long as it is only for 'official purposes'. Not entirely sure what that means!

He is insistent that she has a middle name though. He initially wanted 2, since everyone in his family does, but I refused!

I like Stevie, and Stephanie.

GeorgeTheHamster · 24/12/2017 13:28

Stevie Nicks. Cool name. Def Stephanie on the certificate though.

DuncanDonut · 24/12/2017 15:46

I quite like Stevie (Stephanie for official use. Wanda as a middle name 😄

Thehairthebod · 24/12/2017 15:47

Stephanie with Stevie as a nickname is awesome!

I think I want another child just to call her that!

greendale17 · 24/12/2017 15:49

Chavvy

MountainVista · 24/12/2017 15:49

I think it's cool, mostly the Stevie nicks association. Also Stevie Smith the poet. Too chicken to use myself, but short for Stephanie is a good call

Etihad · 24/12/2017 16:00

As in the Kasabian song and its slightly creepy video? I like the name but wouldn’t use it due to that (and knowing too many nasty men called Steve!)

Evelynismyformerspyname · 24/12/2017 16:05

It's a bit odd that your DH seems to think that only his opinion in this is important...

Stevie is fine as a nickname but definitely Stephanie on the birth certificate, or something else that could be shortened to Stevie. Stevie as an official name is very Marmite indeed and if you don't like it you shouldn't be bullied into putting it on the birth certificate. It's a name a child might grow up to love or really hate having!

Stevie puts me in mind of the poet Stevie Smith - it was her full name I think. Not waving but drowning etc.

Yika · 24/12/2017 16:12

I really like this name, was very inspired by Stevie Smith when young. Wasn't her real name though.

Time40 · 24/12/2017 16:17

Chavvy - what? No it absolutely isn't!

I think it's a nice name. It makes me think of Stevie Smith and Stevie Nicks - and what could be cooler than those associations? I was at school with a girl called Stevie, and the other kids were fine with her; no one ever had anything nasty to say about her name.

Onedayhey · 24/12/2017 16:19

I know two Stevies, one boy, one girl. I like it.

NoStraightEdges · 24/12/2017 16:20

It's ok.

Monkeypuzzle32 · 24/12/2017 16:20

I've always liked it but it didn't make it onto the list for my DD, would be like anything similar sounding like Evie, Edie ?

sonlypuppyfat · 24/12/2017 16:24

He wants this, he wants that! Is he carrying this baby?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 24/12/2017 16:27

Seriously why does your partner have the final say? Particularly as you seem uncomfortable with the name, you have said in your post you would not choose it so don’t! of all the thousands of names there must be one you both like, no way would my dh insist we called our child a name I did not like, it’s called be considerate for your partners opinions and feelings.

DotCottonDotCom · 24/12/2017 16:27

I love it and would use it too

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 24/12/2017 16:27

Being considerate!

TantrumsNSprouts · 24/12/2017 16:30

I know a little Stevie. It makes me think of Nicks and that can only ever be cool Grin.
Stephanie is also a really nice name.

BertrandRussell · 24/12/2017 16:36

Ask him if he'd call a little boy Rosie. Then tell him that he can't just impose his choice-baby names have to be compromises.

Evelynismyformerspyname · 24/12/2017 16:43

Stevie Nicks was Stephanie - Stevie was just a nickname. I just googled Stevie Smith and her real name was Florence :o
