Muslim boy's name.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 18/12/2017 14:22

Harrison is a first name. Harris is a surname.

Love Harrison!!

MikeUniformMike · 18/12/2017 14:22

There are prettier island names. Isla (I know it is spelt Islay), Shuna, Ailsa ...

PinkSquash · 18/12/2017 14:22

I have the rhyming connotation too. It's pronounced 'Aris in my dialect, so it isn't pretty.

ImMrsBrightside · 18/12/2017 18:55

No.

Immediately think arse home.

ImMrsBrightside · 18/12/2017 18:56

Arse HOLE!!! Bloody phone!

MikeUniformMike · 18/12/2017 20:41

I would avoid it if your surname is Tweed.

twattymctwatterson · 18/12/2017 21:03

This is funny. Harris is a perfectly ordinary first name for boys in Scotland.

Itchytights · 18/12/2017 21:05

Rolf.

Hideous.

Sorry op.

Obloody · 18/12/2017 21:16

My nephew is called Harris, shortened to harry by his friends - Muslim boy alsoa

Fekko · 18/12/2017 21:52

I'm Scottish and never met a Harris (first name). Maybe it's a regional thing?

twattymctwatterson · 18/12/2017 23:54

Really @Fekko? I'm in the central belt. Wouldn't say it's massively common but I think it's a fairly popular boys name. In fact a quick google tells me it was the 13th most popular boys name in Scotland last year

horatioisabrick · 19/12/2017 00:20

I prefer Henry, Harry and Harold but Harris is still lovely. Great name imo :)!

(Harrison is also a surname imo, btw.)

Battleax · 19/12/2017 00:22

No. Derrière.

NotAgainYoda · 19/12/2017 06:44

Stylish

If that's what jumps out at you when you hear a name, that's what jumps out. No one is 'making' a connection.

emwithme · 19/12/2017 07:00

First thought: Tweed
Second thought: Academy
Third thought: Don't know your arsehole from your elbow

Sorry

LolitaLempicka · 19/12/2017 07:22

It's Aris for arse not Harris. Still too close for my liking though.

harrietm87 · 19/12/2017 07:28

First thought - Rolf

Second thought - why give a baby a surname when so many great first names?! Harry, Henry and even Harold are so much better.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/12/2017 07:29

Horrible.

ninjapants · 19/12/2017 07:31

There are two Harris' in my DS's nursery class. Very popular here (Scotland obviously). Personally I'm not keen on surnames as first names but as they go, Harris is not bad and definitely not too 'out there'.

I'd never made the link with Rolf Harris until now, mumsnet is weird!

MikeUniformMike Harris is a boy's name so the others you suggested, lovely as they are, won't work

NotAgainYoda · 19/12/2017 07:40

Lolita

Aaah. I really thought it was 'Arris. Have just looked it up. You are right

CaptainChristmas · 19/12/2017 07:44

One of the little brothers in Brave is called Harris;

Harris, Hamish and Hubert I think.

Fekko · 19/12/2017 08:08

Maybe it's a newer thing. Do many people know adults called Harris? Maybe that's why I've never come across it.

FarAwayFromLand · 19/12/2017 08:12

I like it but then I love surnamey names. It's too popular here though so I wouldn't use it (East Scotland).

Never heard the arse thing in my life!

WishICouldThinkOfSomethinWitty · 19/12/2017 15:23

My Surname is Harris and I've always been a bit "bleurgh" about it as to me it's really common.
