I love it but have had a couple of Hmm reactions when I’ve mentioned it as a possibility!

Of course they wouldnt be bullied! Great name. Dont tell people the name before he is born.

Reallytired17 · 14/12/2017 21:04

Well to be honest, we knew a Wilfred and my parents used to be a bit like ‘lovely bloke, but WilfredGrin

So I think of Wilfred as a Cyril like name! I do still love it though and will and Fred would work as nicknames if he hated it.

Little Willy. Why would he be bullied at school for his name? Hmm

Reallytired17 · 14/12/2017 21:11

I was. Mine was unusual and it made me stand out, so am quite keen to avoid for child(ren!)

I used to teach. Taught a Wilf. Quite Scandi cool. No bullying as far as I could tell.

Thanks, Bobbin!

I know several little Wilfs, it’s pretty fashionable around here (along with Ernest, which I do think is pretty awful). Wilfred’s fine.

Reallytired17 · 14/12/2017 21:16

I have to agree on Ernest! Grin

I’ve known a young Wilf a few years back, it really suited him. Love the name, I think it’s adorable. But not Wilfred I’m afraid.

FrogsLegs32 · 14/12/2017 21:17

I teach a Wilf, no one bats an eyelid Grin

TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/12/2017 21:19

Wilf, Fred. Wilfred Owen was a pretty cool bloke too.

Ceebs85 · 14/12/2017 21:20

I've heard of a few baby Wilfred's recently so no probably not

WaitrosePigeon · 14/12/2017 21:23

There’s a Wilfred in my daughters class at school. No bullying going on.

Reallytired17 · 14/12/2017 21:25

Thanks very much!

Yeah it's not that uncommon, can't see why you'd even think he would be bullied tbh.

Doubletrouble42 · 14/12/2017 21:28

Got a friend with an 11yr old Wilfred; never had an issue. Popular confident little chap. Great name!

qumquat · 14/12/2017 21:32

Not nowadays, and certainly not in trendy middle class circles. Wilfred is very much on trend grandad chic.

Corneliusmurphy · 14/12/2017 21:33

We have a wilf at school, none of the children batted an eye and I'm now so used to it when we met a will his name seemed unfinished...

Mclaren37 · 21/12/2017 01:41

I like Wilf a lot and it's not uncommon now amongst the baby set Smile. I know. Any Wilfreds, Gilberts, Ernie. I don't think it would cause him any problems.

BlazingPaddles · 21/12/2017 01:44

I think it's common enough these days so as not to stand out among his peers. Personally I classify alongside the aforementioned Cyril and would be thinking 'poor bugger'. But i'd keep my thoughts to myself!

pipilangstrumpf · 21/12/2017 09:41

The nickname Willy may we'll get teased at primary school.

CaptainChristmas · 21/12/2017 10:41

No I don’t think so. I know of two under 7 in my small town. It isn’t as out there as people might think imo.

Ham69 · 21/12/2017 16:08

No. Love it and Wilf is a cool nickname.

Flicketyflack · 21/12/2017 16:15

I love the name but used it for my beloved cat 😺

QuiteLikeable · 21/12/2017 16:18

It's very drippy. See if your husband wants to change his name to Wilfred then take it from there...
