Maybe we'll use it as a middle name...
Thankyou for the honest replies x

I like it :) Yes it's old-fashioned but old-fashioned names are coming back in. I think Mal would suit a young child and who knows by the time they were an adult there could be lots of little Maldwyns running around :)

ShovellerDuck · 03/12/2017 19:31

In many languages, including English, mal means bad.

LovelyBranches · 04/12/2017 09:33

I prefer Malgwyn, it doesn’t sound as harsh.

MikeUniformMike · 04/12/2017 16:18

Malgwyn? Did you just make that up?

CheeriosEverywhere · 04/12/2017 16:24

On a separate note, it really pisses me off when people go 'eurrrgh NO' at a name when they've no idea about its provenance

are we allowed to say eeurrgh no if we do know it's provenance?

CheeriosEverywhere · 04/12/2017 16:26

Malgwyn? Did you just make that up?

It's a name.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 04/12/2017 16:27

I've never heard the name Malgwyn before. Do you mean Maelgwn? Maelgwn sounds better than Maldwyn but the -cwn association would put me off (cwn = dogs in modern Welsh).

CheeriosEverywhere · 04/12/2017 16:37

If you simply google Malgwyn you will find examples of people with the name Smile

MikeUniformMike · 04/12/2017 16:47

Just googled and no it doesn't.

confusedandemployed · 04/12/2017 16:52

@FizzyGreenWater you beat me by 2 clear days! What a great film that was. Must dig out my DVD.

OP - it is a bit of an old man's name but Mal is a lovely shortening. I'm also a big fan of Tal as a shortening of Talfryn or Taliesin.

FizzyGreenWater · 04/12/2017 16:59

Who is that person? Why, he's the only Malgwyn in the known world that's who.

And THAT is why he got an OBE.

CheeriosEverywhere · 04/12/2017 17:01

I have a unique name, will I be made a Dame? Grin

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 04/12/2017 17:02

Fair enough Cheerio Grin he does look like a Malgwyn, too.

Guardsman18 · 04/12/2017 17:14

Sorry but it makes me think malwoden every time I hear it! (Snail)

Guardsman18 · 04/12/2017 17:14

PS Malgwyn's mother made that up myn!

FizzyGreenWater · 04/12/2017 18:20

Grin She must have been going for a Maelgwyn/Maldwyn mash-up.

Maybe they were the two Dadcus and there was a fist fight at the registrars.

Who says that made-up names are a modern thing!!!

Mumsnut · 04/12/2017 18:24

It's a bit Harry Potter.

Harry Maldwyn Potter

Whythesnoring · 05/12/2017 20:17

Iusedtobeafreeelf · 05/12/2017 20:41

Love it. Go for it

cakeandteajustforme · 08/12/2017 08:46

You OP asked for opinions so I answered the direct question and gave mine earlier... but please don't let random strangers on the internet put you off a perfectly reasonable name! We all have responses to all sorts of names that are 'normal' as well as to more unusual ones.
I personally don't think enough people keep more unusual traditional names alive..

FizzyGreenWater · 08/12/2017 09:50

I can't believe this is still going.

Go the whool hog Mog!
