Dorothea or Juniper?

So I was pretty settled on Juniper for my 3rd DD but then I saw a thread the other day about the name Dorothea and now can't stop thinking about it. What's your favourite?

Love Juniper.

Dorothea. Because a) it's lovely and has amazing shortening and b) it's actually a name, not an ingredient.

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 18/11/2017 20:10

Juniper.

Mumsiemummy1 · 18/11/2017 20:11

Junipa

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2017 20:13

And there are far fewer baby Dorotheas than baby Junipers.

ASDismynormality · 18/11/2017 20:14

Juniper is far more beautiful than Dorothea which seems really clunky to me.

Meeep · 18/11/2017 20:15

I just love how you have so many nicknames with Dorothea. Dot, Thea, Dory and Dora and Dottie.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/11/2017 20:15

Dorothea sounds and looks very ugly to me.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/11/2017 20:17

Dorothea but I much prefer Dorothy.
Probably because of the Wizard of Oz

NorthernLurker · 18/11/2017 20:21

Dorothea!

MyOtherProfile · 18/11/2017 20:22

Love Juniper. Especially because of the gin connection Grin

PandaCat · 18/11/2017 20:29

Oooh I love Juniper!

MakeMineAStrongOne · 18/11/2017 20:32

Dorothea. Thea's a nice shortening if you find the full thing a bit heavy. Plus it's the name of one of the most wonderful female characters in English lit.

"But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."

Juniper is lovely as is June or Juno

Dorothea is ok but I’m not keen on Dorothy dot or dotty.

bridgetreilly · 18/11/2017 20:51

Dorothea. I really don't like Juniper at all, but Dorothea is one of my very favourite names.

SuperBeagle · 18/11/2017 21:04

Juniper.

Juni, June, Juno for abbreviations.

Don't like Dorothea at all.

ByThePowerOfRa · 18/11/2017 21:08

Dorothea, though I like both!

I prefer the shortening options for Dorothea, (Dora, Dot, Thea), than for Juniper. I also think Juniper might get misheard as Jennifer, but possibly that’s just how I say it!

Dorothea, no contest. Not just because of the wide range of diminutives she can choose from as she grows or because of the range of amazing Dorotheas in history for her to learn from but because my favourite great aunt was a Dorothea.

She was an unsung role model to me. She was born in 1900 and made her way through incredible adversity to live her own life. Just like some of those historical Dorotheas :)

AnyaMoondial · 19/11/2017 01:18

Dorothea. It's fabulous.

Ttbb · 19/11/2017 01:37

I'm not at all a fan of juniper. Juniper is very much a bush in my mind, not a child.

ShiftyMcGifty · 19/11/2017 01:42

Just be daring and go for Sloe

CakeRattleandRoll · 19/11/2017 04:46

Juniper

MsJuniper · 19/11/2017 05:05

Juniper! (obvs) Grin

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 19/11/2017 05:06

Begrudgingly Juniper, no idea why you’d inflict, Dorothea, Dottie, Dot, Dora, Dory on a child Thea is meh
