Dorothea or Juniper?

So I was pretty settled on Juniper for my 3rd DD but then I saw a thread the other day about the name Dorothea and now can't stop thinking about it. What's your favourite?

Juniper feels fresh and modern to me while Dorothea is more of an old fashioned choice

Motherducksaidquackquackquack · 19/11/2017 06:40

Really like June , really dnt like juniper, sorry

Athrawes · 19/11/2017 06:44

Juniper or Juno

MyOtherProfile · 19/11/2017 06:46

I know I've mentioned the gin connection upthread already but every time i see this in my TIO I'm surprised mn'ers haven't boosted Juniper to the top 100 names already long ago Grin

Two of my three favourite names Smile I love Dorothea: Dolly, Dot, The a so many lovely nicknames same for Juniper: June, Peru, Juno my third favourite is Ottiline Linnie, tilly, otty. I've devotees more time to baby names since I've been menopausal than I should Grin

Thanks everyone. Some food for thought (and drink!)

Dorothea. But I like Juniper as well. They're very different styles of names.

Belmo · 19/11/2017 10:46

I think I prefer Juniper.
Love Theodora, just to be awkward!

AnonimityMary · 19/11/2017 10:48

Dorothea. Lovely name and great literary inspiration. I was desperate to namemy DD Dorothea but DH was having none of it. He regrets that now.

BehindLockNumberNine · 19/11/2017 10:49

Dorothea, without a doubt!
Although, as per poster below, I love Theodora!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/11/2017 11:58

Just Thea.

SoftSheen · 19/11/2017 12:03

Dorothea is a beautiful, classy name that will not become dated.

Juniper is OK but a bit faddy I think. I would happily name a cat Juniper, but not a child who will likely live for 80 years or more.

Patal · 26/11/2017 19:56

Juniper is a real winner for me. I know a Juni and she is the sweetest little girl. Such a refreshing name

pipilangstrumpf · 26/11/2017 21:33

Dorothea! Definitely. Beautiful classic name that sounds great in most languages.

Juniper? Sounds like an ingredient or a horse and not at all feminine, sorry.

EmmaC78 · 26/11/2017 21:35

Not keen on either but if pushed I would go for Dorothea and shorten to Thea.

Buntysoven · 27/11/2017 00:22

Dorothea is so matronly whereas Juniper is perky!

HolyCreamola · 27/11/2017 00:23

Dorothea is far too old fashioned and frilly for me.

MyOtherProfile · 27/11/2017 10:20

Look! Go with Juniper and your dd already has her own magazine!

Dorothea or Juniper?

I love them both but I like Juno for a girl so I'd say Juniper trumps it for me.

NotBurpeesAgain · 27/11/2017 12:59

Dorothea

pipilangstrumpf · 27/11/2017 13:37

Juniper sounds masculine, June or Junipa would be more feminine imo

pipilangstrumpf · 27/11/2017 13:37

Love Dorothea

Sheitgeist · 29/11/2017 20:05

Dorothea is a bit long and awkward, but I do like Thea.
I like Juniper, and it is a name, despite what a PP said above!

Minty82 · 29/11/2017 20:13

That quote always makes me cry, MakeMineAStrongOne! And I agree, one of the all time greatest books, and characters, which always makes me a bit wistful that I don't like the name more - it just feels a bit too heavyweight. Thea's beautiful though. And it beats Juniper, which is quite fun but has none of the same resonance, and I'm not convinced really works as a name.

Dorothea...or Theadora?
