Arlo?

My husband likes Arlo for a boys name. I think I like it but it’s fairly unusual in comparison to the other names we are considering. What do you think of it? I think it’s a bit of a cartoon character name?!

I love it!!!!! Due my 2nd baby boy next week but sadly unable to use it as my son is already called Milo so we feel it's just too similar. Plan to use it as a middle name instead 😐 I have heard it's becoming more popular tho so wwouldnt say it's too unusual xxx

icantgetnosleep5 · 18/11/2017 10:04

It's reeeeally popular since tht dinosaur film came out ! Tht dsnt mean it's a bad name , but I think it will definitely be a common one last and this year

bigchris · 18/11/2017 10:05

I always think of it as a dog's name, sorry !

Efferlunt · 18/11/2017 10:06

I was keen on this for DS now 7. In the end we went with a family name instead. Tbh I’m glad we didn’t use it as it seems to have become v popular and I’d worry it might date it a bit.

Username0000007 · 18/11/2017 10:20

It's getting very popular, very fast. I know of 4 born in the past year. I remember it being on the list for ds five years ago and it was around the 700 mark, now it's top 50. I'm glad we didn't choose it and went for a classic name instead.

Yorke00 · 18/11/2017 10:24

I don't like it, sorry. Faddy and a bit try- hard. Very popular near me.

pipilangstrumpf · 18/11/2017 11:21

I like it. But wouldn’t call it unusual!?

Isadora2007 · 18/11/2017 11:23

Dinosaur. But cute.

IVflytrap · 18/11/2017 11:31

I dislike it, mainly because I grew up near Harlow in Essex (which is an utter dive) and Arlo sounds like the local pronunciation of the place.

Arlo also sounds like it should be the French pronunciation of Harlot... Er, sorry for the negativity OP. Everyone else seems to love Arlo, so if it's the one for you (and you don't live near Harlow) then go for it.

WhatKatyDidNotDo · 18/11/2017 11:40

I don't like it, but it's not offensive. It's similar to names like Rio and Otis.

harrietm87 · 18/11/2017 12:06

I don’t think it’s unusual at all - it’s really popular near me. 2 of my colleagues (in a team of 30) have had babies called Arlo this year, and I’ve seen it on fb announcements a lot as well. It’s cute but I think will really date - a future Kevin/Gary/Wendy type name

christmastreewithhairyfairy · 18/11/2017 12:10

V popular round here, mostly with wanky hipsters. Sorry op

DiegoMadonna · 18/11/2017 12:58

IT's one of the fastest (if not THE fastest) growing boys names of the last few years. In 2006 it was the 582nd most used boys name in the UK. In 2016 it was 49th.

That means two things:

  1. It's not going to be unusual for this generation.
  2. It may well become dated in a few decades because it is obviously on trend for this period.

Point 2 is true for a lot of names though tbf. They're just not all as easy to predict.

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 18/11/2017 12:59

It's popular where I live despite it being the nn of a town!!

MikeUniformMike · 18/11/2017 14:46

It's in Essex.

Malpais · 18/11/2017 14:48

Sounds like the name of a really wanky, posh, blonde dog. Like a golden retriever on a country estate maybe. Sorry.

MikeUniformMike · 18/11/2017 14:59

It makes me think of Arla, the milk company. Or Harlow.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/11/2017 19:20

I think it's a great name !

Mrsknackered · 18/11/2017 19:24

I'm not really a fan, sorry. I heard one years ago and thought 'that's nice' but there is too many now.

ByThePowerOfRa · 18/11/2017 20:51

It’s not unusual. I like it!

Growingboys · 18/11/2017 20:54

Try-hard and becoming too popular. Natasha Kaplinsky has an Arlo, I think - that would be more than enough for me.

stonygreysoil · 20/11/2017 14:59

its a nice name but what DiegoMadonna says...

rainbowstardrops · 20/11/2017 15:02

I really like it Smile

Potteryprincess30 · 20/11/2017 21:21

It is a lovely name but is so unbelievably popular. It honestly feels like everywhere I go I hear it called out to a little boy at least once

formerbabe · 20/11/2017 21:37

It seems pretty popular at the moment. I don't like it at all to be honest.
