I love Anna, DH quite likes it
DH loves Nina, I quite like it
We both quite like Mia.

Middle name will be Esmeralda for family reasons.

Not liking Nina at all. It's too cutesy.
Anna I think is quite plain, but I like it. It's an old name which I feel will make a comeback. I like that you can't really judge a person based on the name Anna.
Mia - Depends how it's pronounced. If it is like 'My-ah' then YES! If it is like 'Mee-ah' NO! To me it's too cutesy, sounds like a little terriers name.

Anna

HettyB · 13/11/2017 19:57

Anna. Beautiful and classic.

Mia is too popular for me and I have an irrational hatred of the name Nina (maybe because it sound whiny?)

millifiori · 13/11/2017 20:01

Anna - I love it. Beautiful, classic name. Not keen on Nina and Mia.

RavenWings · 13/11/2017 20:04

Nina by a mile.

Anna is just bland nowadays imo, it's used so often. Ditto Mia but I see you've ruled that out.

givemejustalittlemoretime · 19/11/2017 19:27

Oh, I'm just seeing this I have a five year old Nina! It is a brilliant name. It's still pretty unusual, but I have met a few in my patch of London over the last few years two English Ninas (one a Georgina), a French Nina, a Mexican Nina, a Russian Nina, and an Italian Nina. Doesn't bother me when I meet another -- I love that it's so international.

Also, the author of the book the Baby Name Wizard named her daughter Nina, so I thought that was a good sign. Grin

I also love Anna, but DH thought it was middle-class bland and wouldn't go for it. I think Anna might be the "safer" and more popular choice, but again, that's not a bad thing! A friend told me that Nina reads to her as "posh bohemian" -- I'm not quite sure what to think about that!

Think Nina and Anna both age very well.

I have an older cousin named Mia who is in her forties and I was always a bit jealous of it, but she was the only one I knew until the name boomed a few years ago. I've also met a couple of dogs named Mia (and admittedly a corgi named Nina . . .!) Also know an Amelia nn Mia.

Ikeameatballs · 19/11/2017 19:29

Nina, by a mile even though actually I still like both Anna and Mia but just not nearly as much as Nina!

givemejustalittlemoretime · 19/11/2017 19:36

Oh one more thing and then I'll shut up. When I was pregnant, a friend asked her fourteen year old Nina if she would recommend her name and she said: "It's an excellent name to have, because when you want to carve your name into a stick you can write it using only straight lines."

But the same is true of Anna as well! :)

starkid · 20/11/2017 15:48

I love Anna :)

KarineAimee · 20/11/2017 16:52

Nina! Lovely name Smile

Alisvolatpropiis · 20/11/2017 17:26

Nina.

Anna is just so boring.

Mia is nice enough but will probably date badly.

AnonimityMary · 21/11/2017 07:15

@givemejudtalittlemoretime I love the fact that the author of baby names wizard chose to call her child Nina. For some reason that really tickles me.

I think we are definitely leaning towards Nina Esmeralda.

Nina

givemejustalittlemoretime · 21/11/2017 16:50

Ha, I love that fact too! She has excellent taste. Grin

Not that I'm trying to put you off of Anna! It is also such a lovely name and if DH had been up for it, I would've found it an impossible choice. You can't go wrong!

JoVH · 21/11/2017 16:59

Anna

HotDamnState · 21/11/2017 17:00

All nice names, but I like Nina for the slightly-more-unusual factor.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 21/11/2017 17:51

Anna and Nina are lovely (and actually the perfect girl/girl twin pair, now I think of it). Not keen on Mia.

daisypond · 21/11/2017 19:47

Not Mia. I like both Anna and Nina.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 21/11/2017 20:03

I love Nina! However make sure you watch the children's tv show "Nina and the neutrons" or whatever it's called (annoying music). You'll get themed shit, however it's all science based so pretty cool.

TerrysChocolateOrange761 · 21/11/2017 20:57

Nina, then Mia, then Anna for me.

Anna is outdated and Mia is very popular.

My youngest daughter, is called Maia, pronounced Mya, I love it.

KennedyHel · 05/01/2018 02:16

My Daughter (15) is called Nina her full name is Nina Magic Colleen. She loves it.. it's not quirky or unusual but rare. I don't know any others . Sirens were never considered and I've never heard that in 15 yrs.. The magic came by chance in the registry office and she loves that too..

horatioisabrick · 05/01/2018 08:04

Anna or Mia.

DD1 calls the ambulance and police nina. It’s the sound she makes whenever she sees one or plays ambulance with her toy cars.

TatianaLarina · 05/01/2018 10:10

Nina gets really mangled by a London accent - it comes out Neenaaaah.
