If you had children called Myfanwy Elfrida and Seamus Owen, what would you choose for a third child (boy or girl)

Welsh/Irish parents

His veto: Pascal, Gwendolen, Emrys

Her veto: Blodwen, Aneurin, Ffion

P.S Blodwen has got to be one of the least surprisingly-vetoed names of all time

Bromwyn
Nerris

Emmet
Eoughan

Mess with the system. Go with Ned.

Helpotron3000 · 11/11/2017 11:31

Downside to that plan, Skittles, is that I'd then have a child called Ned

Arianwyn. Bronwyn. Rhiannon. Megan. Lowri. Angharad. Bethan

Helpotron3000 · 11/11/2017 11:59

I also vetoed Morag

Llewellyn, I quite like, although I keep thinking about Laurence Llewellyn Davis.
I think Patrick/Padraig would make a good middle name for a boy

I also really like Llewyn, as in Inside Llewyn Davis the film, but apparently it's not a real Welsh name

Dilys? I love the sound of this, but someone told me it was a Welsh granny name...

Mumof3ladies · 11/11/2017 13:03

I love Arianwen and Gwenllian for girls and Gethin and Cerith for boys 😊

MikeUniformMike · 11/11/2017 13:58

-wyn indicates a boy. -wen a girl.
Bromwyn isn't a name, Bronwyn is horrible, Bronwen is lovely.
Brenin as a boy's name has to be a joke.

MikeUniformMike · 11/11/2017 14:01

Gwilym is popular, Welsh for William.

pret · 11/11/2017 14:09

I love Dilys

MikeUniformMike · 11/11/2017 14:21

I prefer Llywelyn to Llewelyn. Llewellyn is the anglicised form.
Dilys rhymes with Phyllis.

Avoid LLs as they are unpronounceable outside native mother tongue Welsh speakers.
G is always hard in welsh. Ng is a separate letter - usually ng not ng-g.
Vowel combinations like wy, ei and eu are unpronounceable outside native mother tongue Welsh speakers.

Myfanwy is pronounced Muv-ann-wy - the wy bit sounds like the English "with" without the "th".

Names - ending -ir or are unpronounceable outside native mother tongue Welsh speakers.

How about Caradog for a boy - Car-AD-og

Chaffinch4 · 11/11/2017 15:05

I know Dilys rhymes with Phyllis. Not sure what your point is... (I like the sound of Phyllis too!)

daisypond · 11/11/2017 15:42

Bryn, Cian for boys
Olwen for a girl

JennyOnAPlate · 11/11/2017 15:50

I like iestyn or rhydian for a boy. Celyn is nice for a girl.

RavenWings · 11/11/2017 15:56

Niall, Fiachra, Daragh, Aidan, Elgar, Harri, Idris, Cathal, Lorcan, Diarmuid, Emmet, Ciar for a boy.

Cara, Laoise, Seren, Elinor, Eleri, Roise, Riona, Eirlys, Fiadh, Muireann, Niamh, Arwen, Eira, Saoirse, Manon, Rhian for a girl.

LaBelleSausage · 11/11/2017 15:58

Idris for a boy

Eleri for a girl
