What do you think about the name Philippa? What does it say to you? Thanks!

to me it sounds a bit sloany and 'horsy' as it means 'lover of horses'.
I don't like it as also it could well get shortened to Pippa which is probably the rudest name possible, in a range of European languages.

I think it’s lovely.

What else is on your list?

I think horsey girl.

I love Pippa or Pip.

I have a friend who's called Philly as a short form though, which I hate.

Thanks - I was worried about the horsiness. We're not horsey at all! But I do love the name... I really love long traditional/classic names that you can use nicknames for - E.g. Elizabeth (Lizzie) but that's my sisters name so might be weird, Josephine (Joey), Theodora (Teddy). But I just keep coming back to Philippa as think it's really lovely and not too popular at the mo. My DH needs convincing though as he thinks it's a bit dull.

I love it! It was on our list for this baby, but think we’re having a boy.

Fwiw our other favourite was Juliet.

I love the name. It was in my top 3 for girls baby names but my baby didn't look like a Phillipa.

What on earth is rude about Pippa?

I love it - would have used it but it becomes a tongue twister combined with our surname!

I think it sounds horsey too.

Not a fan.

Don't mind Philip for a boy, however.

Pippa I believe means wank in Italian.

My sister's name. I have never associated it with horses and we are not posh!

Sounds dated too

Know what you mean about it feeling dated - but I think it's on the right side of being classic and timeless like Elizabeth, Victoria, etc. And I like that it's not so popular at the mo!

Not keen.

I like Olivia, shortened to Livvy

Philippa itself may be a little dated but Pippa etc are very much in vogue

I love Josephine, so many nicknames. I’d start with Posy and move on to Josie or Sephi.

I have a friend called Philippa, she always got fed up of being called 'Fill Up A.....' followed by some random weird insult.
