Annabel

Popeye44 · 10/11/2017 13:03

Thanks for all your responses, I don't know if I'm daring enough to go for Penelope, if I did what possible middle names would I choose?

Penelope is a perfectly normal name! No daringness required. I known three grown up Penny's and one child and they are all lovely.

Personally I think middle names should have a meaning, e.g. Family names, rather than just being an extra name that doesn't get used very often!

Lily and Gracie! Best of Luck! :D

Makesmilingyourbesthobby · 10/11/2017 13:30

Penelope Rose
Penelope Jane
Penelope Grace
Penelope Rain
Penelope Faith
Penelope Willow

BoredOnMatLeave · 10/11/2017 13:31

Penelope

Makesmilingyourbesthobby · 10/11/2017 13:32

Penelope Winter if she is due soon & runs well with Surname

Teddy7878 · 10/11/2017 13:39

I like Olivia, lily and Ashley best.
Don't like Annabelle but that might be because of the creepy film that was out this year.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 10/11/2017 14:22

If you decide to go with Penelope as her first name, then why not use the beautiful Maebh for her middle? Thus including the Irish heritage, too.

Penelope Maebh...flows nicely.

Really do love Maebh best for her first name, though!

HiggedyPiggedy · 10/11/2017 19:18

I prefer Aisling to Ashley - seems more modern to me (but I'm not Irish)

greendale17 · 10/11/2017 19:23

Another vote for Penelope

Definitely not Ashley

BernardBlacksHangover · 10/11/2017 19:31

Maebh is lovely.

I like Penelope too, but think it’s getting to be quite common now. I know three little Penelopes, all from different places, (one is in Scotland, one in north of England and the other is in Canada). I’ve also heard at least two people say they nearly called their dc Penelope but didn’t for one reason or another.

DiegoMadonna · 10/11/2017 20:40

Penelope because I like Penny.

HappyLollipop · 10/11/2017 20:46

Maebh is my favourite. I also really like Penelope as Penny is a lovely nn, Grace is also lovely but I don't like Gracie although it's ok as a nn.

sausagepastapot · 10/11/2017 20:48

Maebh or Penelope

MollyHuaCha · 10/11/2017 20:52
  1. Penelope
  2. Annabel
  3. Olivia
RavenWings · 10/11/2017 20:59

I teach in Ireland. I have taught a load of Olivias, Lily's, Annabels, Grace/Gracie and two Rosies iirc.

Olivia - very dull and bland imo
Lily - ditto
Ashley - nice name
Penelope - meh
Gracie - no, the ie is infantilising imo and not a fan of Grace at all.
Rosie - same ie problem but Rose is gorgeous
Maebh - best on the list by a mile
Annabel - meh. There are a lot of these (and Anna's) and it's a bit flouncy for me.

I would choose:

  1. Maebh
  2. Ashley
  3. Rose (or Rosie)
SabineDeux · 10/11/2017 21:18

Annabel. But you have to spell it that way, not the frilly French way.

MoonGeek · 10/11/2017 21:20

Penelope

Ida3456 · 10/11/2017 21:50

Annabel or Penelope

harrietm87 · 10/11/2017 21:57

@Popeye44 that’s not the correct spelling - it’s either Maeve or Meabh, not Maebh - it’s a beautiful name and my top choice of your list but go for the Irish or English versions, not a mash up!

Bouncingbelle · 10/11/2017 22:00

1.Lily

  1. Olivia
  2. Maebh

Penelope is just one of those names that will 'date' really badly (yes its a classical name, but its only been popular for about 2 years and will probably fall out of favour again soon).

holdbackonthewine · 10/11/2017 22:10

I have an Annabel. Of the others I like Lily best.

holdbackonthewine · 10/11/2017 22:11

I must add (unless you’re French) I much prefer your suggested spelling of Annabel to the belle version.

holdbackonthewine · 10/11/2017 22:13

I like Penelope and know several from 60s down to age 4 in all generations (usually known as Penny) so I think it’s timeless.
