Teddy for a girl?

We don’t know what we are having yet, but I love the name Teddy for a girl.

I would use Theodora on the birth certificate.. so she could use Teddy, Thea, Dora or make some other name up if she didn’t want to be Teddy.

I first saw it on a tv show (Good Luck Charlie?) I think it was called. It’s an American show..

But I just love the name! What do you think for a girl?

Love, love, love it!! This was top of my list but dh vetoed... he has very poor taste in names!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 06/11/2017 14:17

Jesus, first it was Bear all over the bloody place, now it's Teddy...
Were you all deprived of soft toys as kids??

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/11/2017 07:59

The op is talking about using Teddy as a nickname not as a stand-alone first name. What’s the big deal here?

Theodora is really lovely, and as you say op, lots of nickname potential

NearLifeExperience · 07/11/2017 10:36

Love Theodora, hate Teddy!

I don’t think it matters. The intention is to CALL the child Teddy, irrespective of what’s on the BC.

I think it's cute. Teddy was on our (boys) shortlist before DS was born (he ended up not suiting any of our boy names and with something completely different) but I think it works for both boys and girls - one of the 3yo girls at the nursery I worked at a couple of years ago was a Teddy (not sure what it was short for) and I thought it was lovely on her. Theodora gives her lots of options later in life, too :)

I'll admit, I wouldn't pick it for my daughter, but I think it's pretty cute! Actually prefer the name Teddy on a girl. Grin

Helena17 · 08/11/2017 12:28

I don't think so. Gabby or Alex maybe cuter :)

SamoyedSam · 08/11/2017 12:37

Beautiful name for a girl! Go for it OP!

HeadlessGummyBears · 19/11/2017 17:10

Theodora is fab! Love the nn Teddy. It’s cute Smile

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 19/11/2017 17:15

No, I don’t understand why you would name a child a name that you never plan on using? They will still need to use that awful name on important documents. Just call them the name you want to actually use

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 19/11/2017 17:20

* I like Teddy, short for Edwina.*

What? How are they even related ?Hmm

Smoliver · 19/11/2017 17:25

I love Theodora. If you love it, use it!

WoolyMammyoth · 19/11/2017 17:31

Teddy for a boy is short for any name beginning with Ed (Edward, Edmund, Edwin) as well as Theodore, why not for Edwina?

MacaroonMama · 19/11/2017 20:27

I know girl called Teddy, she is maybe six or seven. Don't know if she has a longer name but Thea or even Dora would really suit her much more. Somehow I think Teddy works far better on a boy than a girl. And Ted too.

villainousbroodmare · 19/11/2017 20:46

Theodore, Thea, Dora all lovely. Teddy is so over-discussed imo but sure it's fine as long as it's just a baby's pet name.

Farrar · 19/11/2017 20:54

Think there’s some awful comments on here. It’s a lovely name 😊 I say this because our name for a boy is Theodore, who we would call Theo or Teddy for short!

I say go for it, we may consider Theodora for a girl too although I’m leaning towards some other names at the moment!

PollytheDolly · 19/11/2017 21:47

Love it.

pipilangstrumpf · 19/11/2017 21:57

Cute for a little girl.

Not appropriate for a grown woman, and even less for a man.

TheVanguardSix · 19/11/2017 21:58

Oh please no. Confused

FreckledFrog · 19/11/2017 22:29

I’ve got a boys name as a female and I wish I didn’t. Thea is lovely

Jojopugh · 19/11/2017 22:33

I think it’s cool

idontwanttodothisanymore · 19/11/2017 23:28

@FrustratedTeddyLamp

We would’ve used Theodora for if she decided that she didn’t want to be called Teddy when she got older, then she would have a few options.

DH has decided that he doesn’t like/want Theodora, but he still likes Thea and Teddy.

We find out if baby is a boy or girl tomorrow anyway, so that will obviously be a big help in name decision!

Leaning more towards Thea than Teddy at the moment if baby is a girl.

I love it, as long as she has a longer name on BC, really like full name too :)
