Teddy for a girl?

We don’t know what we are having yet, but I love the name Teddy for a girl.

I would use Theodora on the birth certificate.. so she could use Teddy, Thea, Dora or make some other name up if she didn’t want to be Teddy.

I first saw it on a tv show (Good Luck Charlie?) I think it was called. It’s an American show..

But I just love the name! What do you think for a girl?

I like Teddy, short for Edwina.

I don't like Theodora or for that matter Thea or Theo. But I think that's more because I'm in the SE, close to London, and they'd tend to be pronounced Fee-adora, Fee-a and Fee-o.

MissFlashpants · 03/11/2017 22:14

I dislike it, sorry. It feels like the name
of a toy, an object, not a person. It’s as twee as Bear.

pickleface · 03/11/2017 22:16

Love it!

pipilangstrumpf · 03/11/2017 22:19

Teddy is cute for a little girl. But not for a grown man!

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 03/11/2017 22:21

Theodora is beautiful

I wouldn't like to be an adult woman called Teddy, but it's sweet as a nickname for a little girl

Sophronia · 03/11/2017 22:35

Theodora is lovely, and gives her options if she doesn’t want to be Teddy as an adult.

Themummy76 · 03/11/2017 22:38

Copying Robbie Williams

Nonameyet1 · 03/11/2017 23:01

Not Teddy for a girl.

NameChange30 · 03/11/2017 23:04

Dolly for a boy, anyone?

Yayayoyo · 03/11/2017 23:07

The very fact it’s what that plonker Robbie Williams has called his daughter puts me right off. Otherwise, very cute.

PumpkinSquash · 03/11/2017 23:10

I associate Teddy with a boy. Definitely not a girl, sorry.
Eg, Edward, shortened to Ted or Teddy.

expatinscotland · 03/11/2017 23:11

No. And yy, why not Kate for a boy? Or Clara, after all, Saxon male names often ended in 'a'?

idontwanttodothisanymore · 04/11/2017 00:05

I do already have a daughter who I really wanted to call Teddy. She was born before Robbie Williams had his. I can’t even remember why I didn’t use it.

Thea where I am would be pronounced Th-ee-ah.

One of the things putting me off is that my other two children have traditional names - although both are in top 10. Knew DS name was but didn’t realise DD name was. Although I’ve never seen another with her name.

I’m not due until Spring next year so I have plenty of time to change my mind - which happened a lot with the other two!

Eleanor instead of Theodore?

Teddy can just be a nickname - doesn’t need to be linked to the name particularly

Lilly16 · 04/11/2017 00:17

I love it! I know of one spelt with an 'ie' rather than a 'y'. I think it's lovely and she doesn't get teased. If you've liked it for this long and wish you'd used it before then defo go for it!
If your other children are named more traditionally then I would go with Theadora or just have Teddie and pair with a more common middle name :)

Lovemenoooooww · 04/11/2017 00:30

Do it! I think it’s a bit different and very cute and It’s a lovely shortened name for Theodora.

stellarfox · 04/11/2017 08:34

Love Theodora and why not use Teddy as a nickname! Really like Thea too

SuburbanRhonda · 04/11/2017 08:37

If you like it, use it.

Personally I think it’s twee and sounds a bit try-hard.

mrspatel77 · 04/11/2017 08:45

I think it’s lovely for a girl or a boy x

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 04/11/2017 08:45

I like it.

I’d love to know what the people who are calling it “try hard” have called their kids Grin

mydogisthebest · 04/11/2017 08:52

I don't like it all. I remember thinking when Robbie Williams named his daughter Teddy what an awful name to choose.

Not keen on Theodora either. People will shorten it anyway so pointless giving a long name unless you want her to be called by the shortened version

Branleuse · 04/11/2017 08:59

I think if its just a nickname, you can use whatever the hell you want.

SuburbanRhonda · 04/11/2017 09:14

I’d love to know what the people who are calling it “try hard” have called their kids

Why? I didn’t ask opinions on my children’s names because I didn’t give a stuff what anyone else thought of our choices. The OP clearly does and that’s why she has asked on here.

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 04/11/2017 09:57

GrinGrin

daisypond · 04/11/2017 10:06

I think it's fine as a nickname for Theodora/Dorothea/Edwina/Thea, etc.
