At the risk of being obvious, those names are far from unique. Most primary classes will have at least 3 of them.

Elizabeth - Lizzie, Libby, Beth?
Isabella - Izzie, Bella?

starsshinebright · 23/10/2017 07:44

matilda really?! I've worked in early years settings for 6 years and never worked with a child with any of these names!

I'm related to an Eloise and an Amelie, neither get shortened to a nickname though. Don't think they are very common names as they are the only ones I know. Last primary I worked in had 6 Isabella's though...
Amelia -Millie?

17caterpillars1mouse · 23/10/2017 07:59

I agree with previous poster, Eloise, Amelie and Harriet are far from unusual. I know several of each. The Harriet's go by Hattie or Harry sometimes but none of the Eloise's or Amelie's have nicknames

I think Elodie is a lot more uncommon

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 23/10/2017 08:00

They're certainly v. common (in the widely used sense of the word) in the school that I teach in, and at the school my dc go to.

I'd agree about Isabella, though. Dozens everywhere. But it seemed to be the kind of name that stars was thinking of, and it has a couple of nice abbreviations.

None of those are unique, in fact my name is one of them.

Swearwolf · 23/10/2017 09:10

I'd say anything that shortens to Ellie is out, as there are tonnes of them, probably all short for different things but who knows? There are also a lot of amelies and amelias.

How about Cecilia? Similar vibe but more unusual, and cece/sissy is a cute shortening.

OP doesn't mean unique she means unusual

Yes 'unique' would mean there is only one in the universe surely. Tricky to find a name that unusual unless you make something up!

Anyway, I don't think any of the names in the op are even unusual (sorry op). The only name I don't know any children with it Eloise, but i still wouldn't call it terribly unusual - not common either, but not very unusual.

How about:

Leonora (Leo / Nora / Nell for short)
Isadora (Izzy / Dora for short)
Genevieve (Jen / Vee for short)
Isolde (Izzy for short)
Elowen (Ellie / Lo for short)

The only 'unique' name you've suggested OP is Elodie the others are popular

Coconutspongexo · 23/10/2017 11:36

They're not unusual either sorry
