I like:
Madison nn. Maddie
Eloise nn. Ellie
Elodie nn. Ellie/ Edie
Harriet nn. Hattie
Amelie nn. ??

Any other suggestions? No set middle name and surname begins with 'H' and has 1 syllable.

I don't know any children called Madison but do teach at least 1 (sometimes 2 or 3) Eloise, Elodie, Harriet and Amelie. I'm call them all solidly popular but not massively overused.

Unique is hard. I'm going as unusual as I can here:

Mackenzie - Kenzie (my daughter!)

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 23/10/2017 15:26

There's some beautiful names on this thread but I'm not keen on all the -ie ending nicknames .
Makes them sound like a litter of puppies

SuzukiLi · 23/10/2017 15:29

My Amelie is a Mimi

Ponyboycurtis · 23/10/2017 15:29

Victoria - Tor, whilst not unique, I would say the short version is, I know of one (my sister).

lotsoffreckles · 23/10/2017 15:34

I have an Emmeline nickname Emmie, obviously I think it’s lovely 🎀

Threeandabit · 23/10/2017 16:15

Harriet

Threeandabit · 23/10/2017 16:29

Sorry, I thought Harriet was rarer than it is. It is ranked 49th most popular name, in England and Wales.

BenLui · 23/10/2017 16:37

If you want unusual look for old, regional names from your part of the country.

NotAgainYoda · 23/10/2017 16:44

I wouldn't choose anything that has Ellie/Ella/Edie/Evie as a NN. They are incredibly popular

I suggest:

Margaret - Maggie, Peggie,
Genevieve - Jenny
Marianne - Nan, Mara, Mari
Elizabeth - Elle, Liz, Lizzie, Beth, Betty, Betsey, Eliza

Thanks a lot for that dig at my daughter’s name Breakfast Hmm Much appreciated....

BenLui · 24/10/2017 01:32

Come on Protecting that’s a bit of a stretch. Breakfast’s post was clearly general not a deliberate dig at you.

She’s stating a preference, not slating your name in particular.

cathf · 25/10/2017 17:16

I agree with Breakfast.
This outbreak of cutesy -ie and -y names are going to date this decade's children clearly.
They are the 2000s Sharon and Tracey

FairNotFair · 25/10/2017 17:23

Anastasia (Stazi)

Anastasia is lovely, but "Stazi" could be mistaken for "Stasi", which was the East German secret police service Grin. That would certainly fit the "unusual" brief.

Love Christabel...

EddChinasMangina · 25/10/2017 17:24

Not being snarky but genuinely asking why you want to nickname your child? Surely just give them a name you like?

Threeandabit · 25/10/2017 20:01

Sherena

SpotAGuillemot · 25/10/2017 20:08

If you name your child Margaret or Elizabeth you are then entitled to use absolutely any NN ever. I found this out when working in an old people's home. I'd assumed that their names were the names on their doors - Bunty, Bessie, Meg, Flossie, Liza, Marge, Dot, Lily, plus a few more I can't remember later discovered were either Elizabeth or Margaret.

Names with NN's I like
Ursula - Sula
Winifred - Winnie or Fred
Eleanor - Nell (lots of them though)
Coralie - Cora or Coral

SpotAGuillemot · 25/10/2017 20:10

protecting there are a lot on MN who regularly comment negatively on Mackenzie. If you like the name and it's not offensive then don't let it other you.
