Sidney would be the male spelling

Roxx1516 · 21/10/2017 15:04

I like Sydney 💙

I love Zac. I totally agree with you that if you prefer a shortened version of a name then just call them that on the birth certificate. I don’t understand when people name their children a name with no intention of using it.

babsthebuilder · 21/10/2017 15:33

Personally I would assume Sidney was a boy and Sydney was a girl. So your preferred spelling would put me off that name for a boy. These are my experiences of the name anyway.
I have a stupid rule about not naming children by shortened versions of names.
Vinnie would have to be registered as Vincent. And this applies to Freddie’s should be Fredrick, Will should be William, Lexi should be Alexandra, you get the point.

So George gets my vote.

Roxx1516 · 21/10/2017 15:55

@bansthebuilder well then I'm afraid you need to get with the times because people no longer want the full names. There's lots of children in school now with shortened names, and to be honest most people prefer there name shortened, I think it does sound better, it gives the old long names a freshen up To our times I guess. My partner is Christopher and hates it he wish he was just Chris x

I like them all, but my order of preference (most favourite first) would be: -

George
Zac
Warren
Sydney
Vinnie

George is the most used of all your names, if popularity bothers you. Happy choosing, op. Smile

Buntysoven · 22/10/2017 01:25

Zac is my favourite by a mile.

Lilmisskittykat · 22/10/2017 06:19

I agree with previous posters that Sydney is the female version of Sidney on that alone wouldn’t use that name - I’m getting the blue heart that you love it but doesn’t change people’s views. I just think why give kids the chance to bully as they can be cruel.

I also agree with the full version on birth certificates, so I’m clearly one for tradition too.

If it were me with those choices I’d go for zac.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/10/2017 06:37

Zac

Sydney is a girls spelling.

chocoholic83 · 22/10/2017 08:34

I know two girls that are Sydney and I would choose Zac, love that name and not as popular as George

Pammie70 · 22/10/2017 09:01

Having run a Pre-school for 17 years, names always make me think of particular children for good or bad. The only name I wouldn't pick would be Zac as he was the only child who has ever driven me to the verge of a nervous breakdown Blush

BlackPepperCrab · 22/10/2017 09:16

George; I don't like the rest.

Roxx1516 · 22/10/2017 11:41

@pammie70 that's hilarious haha thankyou, i don't no many zacs myself but I just liked the name as soon as I heard it x

@lilmisskittykat I don't think people are going to bully a child because Iv replaced the I with a Y in Sydney lol, I get your point and Ino that it is the girl spelling but people spell there children's name differently all the time, Iv got a baby name app on my phone and the name Sydney is in the boys category not the girls, And this is how it's spelt and I like it x

Roxx1516 · 22/10/2017 11:49

By the way these are just the names we have so far, I'm only 5 months so still got a while to go yet before I set my heart on one. I'm just really struggling at the moment. I don't want extremely comman names but I don't want a name that's completely un heard of x

Annabelle4 · 22/10/2017 11:54

What about Ronnie? I thought you might like it as it's similar to some of the names on your list.

Seti · 22/10/2017 11:56

Sydney is the female version, but as long as you told people it was a boy then I suppose you’d be ok. ( I’m thinking of a teacher looking at their class lists etc when they first get it)

George is nice and so is Vinnie.

BertrandRussell · 22/10/2017 12:06

Of course he's not going to be bullied for the "Y". But he will have a lifetime of correcting the spelling every single time. Which is a pain in the neck. There are 5 girl Sydneys to every 1 boy.

DiegoMadonna · 22/10/2017 12:47

I'm not a HUGE fan of any of them, but the best IMO is Zac.

NinonDeLenclos · 22/10/2017 13:50

Shortened names don't lend themsleves well to formal work environments. Vinnie would fine if he was a welder, not so good in a news presenter or PM.

I'd go for George or Zachary personally, but I don't like the fashion for old men's names.

MikeUniformMike · 22/10/2017 14:02

It didn't do Zac Goldsmith any harm.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 22/10/2017 14:08

Like them all in order of preference
George
Warren
Zac
Vinnie
Sydney although with y I’d say it’s female spelling

BewareOfDragons · 22/10/2017 14:10

Sydney is a girl's name; Sidney is the boy's version. You don't want people to tease him; kids will always take the piss when they can.

NinonDeLenclos · 22/10/2017 14:13

He's so unbelievably loaded it doesn't matter what he's called. I was referring to Vinnie though not Zach, which is fine shortened.

Imabanana · 22/10/2017 14:13

George or zac
