I really like Kathleen. I prefer it by far (x1000) over Caitlin/Kaitlyn and all the variants.

It would be nice shortened to Katie.

vlooby · 19/10/2017 06:56

I like Kathleen too. I think it's unusual but still traditional and quie pretty. I also love Aoife but it's getting more and more common.
I also Ike Maeve for a girl and love Patrick for a boy.

Jedbartletforpresident · 19/10/2017 07:12

Favourite girls names for me would be:

  • Clodagh
  • Ailis/Eilis

Boys names:

  • Caolaidhe
  • Tadgh

Really like Kathleen - very pretty. Katie is fine too but quite common where I am, Kathleen is lovely with Katie as an option but I wouldn't jump straight to Katie

ems137 · 19/10/2017 07:18

I like kathleen too, my grandma is also called that!

My daughter is Niamh. My nana was Irish and some names in her family were Eilish, Nora and Seamus that I liked.

ChocolateCrunch · 19/10/2017 07:46

I know a Kathleen, lovely name not often heard these days. She gets it shortened to Kitty.

IsThisTheRealYou · 19/10/2017 08:26

I think it's lovely.

TyrionLannistersShadow · 19/10/2017 08:37

Here in Ireland Kathleen would be seen as very old fashioned , and not in an old lady, cute old fashioned way, just very dated. Its everyones grannys name. Just fyi Grin.
Kate or Katie are very popular here atm.

evilharpy · 19/10/2017 08:43

I like Seán, Tadhg and Oisín for a boy. Haven't heard of a baby Seán for years!

mathanxiety · 19/10/2017 08:44

I think Ireland may be about to join the granny chic thing. I know of a baby Bridget nn Biddy, and also a Nora, Dymphna and Bernadette all under 6.

evilharpy · 19/10/2017 08:48

mathanxiety Dymphna is one of the names I have always hated. Possibly caused by my mum having a horrible "friend" of that name.

Maybe there'll be loads of little Jacintas and Attractas and Conceptas and Deirdres this time next year.

17caterpillars1mouse · 19/10/2017 08:57

I like Kathleen as long as it's not shortened to Kath

BernardBlacksHangover · 19/10/2017 09:47

Dixiestampsagain · 19/10/2017 10:24

If know of a Caitlin pronounced as Kate-leen; I have no idea if that's a common thing anywhere in the world but I'd never heard of it before.

londonfeather · 19/10/2017 10:37

Blueberrysandgrapes76 · 19/10/2017 20:36

Kathleen is nice (go with kitty or Kate as a nn)

Catriona is nice
Saoirse is nice but if you aren’t in Ireland would be difficult to pronounce
Niamh lovely and classic

Boys names -
Fergus?
Oisin?

annandale · 19/10/2017 20:39

Loinnir

sneakysailor · 19/10/2017 20:47

Yes to the old-fashioned-in-Ireland comment. Here, it's the equivalent of being called Hilda, Nellie or Doreen- but it's not quite old enough to be cool now. Katie is nice though.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 19/10/2017 20:51

Sadhbh (Sive)
Siobhan
Siun
Ronan
Doireann
Cian
Caoimh
Caoimhe
