Maxwell or just Max?

Which do you prefer?

I'm just adding it to a long list at the moment, so could quite easily be neither!

Max :)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/10/2017 16:50

Just Max.

mum2be2boys · 18/10/2017 17:26

Max

euanthesheepiloveyou · 18/10/2017 19:13

Just Max.

Aureservoir · 18/10/2017 19:15

Maximilian?

NannyR · 18/10/2017 19:16

Max works well as a stand alone name - I don't think you need to have a longer option on the birth certificate. However if you love Maxwell and would call him that, go for it!

BartlebyTheScrivener · 18/10/2017 19:18

I prefer Max
What about Maximilian? I love it!

Santawontbelong · 18/10/2017 19:19

Maximus. .

verystressedmum · 18/10/2017 19:19

Max

BernardBlacksHangover · 18/10/2017 19:37

Maximus reminds me too much of the word maximum and also Gadiator. Based on DH and DD, I think our DS is likely to be on the slender side, so maybe not terribly gladiatorial.

Maximilian is nice, but not sure if it's a bit much maybe? I don't usually like boy names ending in n with our surname but that would work if we liked the name enough.

Just Max.

Chaffinch4 · 18/10/2017 20:05

Just Max, unless you really like Maxwell.

AnyaMoondial · 18/10/2017 20:10

I think maxwell is awesome.

sinceyouask · 18/10/2017 20:12

I like both. Maxwell for bc and Max for every day. One of my children is Max for every day but has a longer name on the bc.

WishingCarrot · 18/10/2017 22:12

This is outing, but my dh middle name is maxwell and he absolutely despises it.

WishingCarrot · 18/10/2017 22:13

I quite like it though.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 18/10/2017 22:45

My Max is just Max. I don't really like the longer versions of the name.

Nonameyet1 · 19/10/2017 06:57

Thinking about it I quite like Maxwell... Max is great too.

Mantegnaria · 19/10/2017 07:02

Maxwell, Maximilian or Maximus. Then just call him Max for short.

Using just "Max" on the official forms is short changing your child.

Mantegnaria · 19/10/2017 07:03

They aren't "longer versions of the name". "Max" is a shortened nickname for people with those longer names.

BernardBlacksHangover · 19/10/2017 07:29

Thanks all for comments. DH likes Max. I'm not sure about Maxwell, but it's grown on me over time. Maximilian is nice too, I just think it could be a bit too much. DH doesn't like that either.

Could very well end up being neither as I'm not sure I like Max enough to use on the bc.

Max... simple and strong

CoffeeChocolateWine · 19/10/2017 10:48

Love the idea that I've 'short changed my child' by calling him Max Grin

Max is a name in its own right. Maximus and Maximilian sound too much to my ear and I don't like Maxwell.

BernardBlacksHangover · 19/10/2017 11:27

Fwiw I don't think you've "short changed" your DS coffee!

I think of Max as a name in its own right. I usually prefer a long name on the bc, but Max is one of those short names which doesn't 'need' it imo. Same with Leo. I do like the name Max, I just don't like it quite enough to use it on its own.

I'm not totally sold on Maxwell either, but it is growing on me. I think (from google only) that it's a Scottish name? I tend to like Scottish names as a few of my favourites are Scottish names (vetoed by DH).

I think it's going to end up being something other than Max. DH chose dd's name, (though I love it now). I'm not having a name I don't completely love this time.

There's also Maxim/ Maxym/ Maksym, or the gorgeous Welsh name Macsen (which I have also seen spelled as Maxsen).
