Which do you prefer and why?

Cora
Laura
Elisabeth (would be known as Elsa or Elsie day to day)

Surname sounds a bit like Charlie.

Your thoughts would be appreciated - thanks!

I really like Cora

KatnissMellark · 24/09/2017 21:15

Cora is nicest I think
Then Elisabeth but she'll have a lifetime of correcting misspellings
Not Laura, totally 80s (and every one of them I've known has been a spoilt brat)

C0untDucku1a · 24/09/2017 21:15

Cora

Cora

nodogsinthebedroom · 24/09/2017 21:17

I should say, issues I'm concerned about

Cora - too trendy?
Laura - too dated?
Elisabeth - weird spelling?
Elsa - frozen?
Elsie - too many ee's with surname??

Cora

Smoliver · 24/09/2017 21:22

Cora, closely followed by Laura.

Kazzawazza69 · 24/09/2017 21:22

Cora is lovely x

Beek84 · 24/09/2017 21:24

Cora gets my vote - lovely sounding name and I don't think too trendy? I like the Gallic connotations too.

Laura probably a bit dated yes in that it was used a lot in 80s so there are a lot of women in their 30s with that name ( although she would prob be only Laura in her class now!)

Personally I'm just not too keen on the spelling of Elisabeth and not a fan of Elsie or Elsa - though if you like them that's the important thing and would suggest just going for one of the shorter versions as Elisabeth might get shortened to more common nicknames like Liz/lizzie or Beth

MySecretToTell · 24/09/2017 21:25

I love Elizabeth but don't get why you'd swap the z for s?

PandorasXbox · 24/09/2017 21:29

Elisabeth by a billion miles. Cora is awful and Laura is dated.

MrsPringles · 24/09/2017 21:34

Cora
Smile

minipie · 24/09/2017 21:35

Elisabeth, but I'd choose Libby or Beth or Bess as nn.

To me Elsa is a name of its own and Elsie is a nn for Elspeth.

Cora is nice too. Cara?

SuperBeagle · 24/09/2017 21:41

Cora.

Elisabeth will always have to correct people on the spelling of her name. I'm an Elizabeth, and that's how people always assume to spell it. The benefit of the name is that everyone knows how to spell it.

Plus, I doubt Elsa/Elsie will stick as nicknames.

SlugKiller · 24/09/2017 21:43

Cora is my favourite.

I do like the name Laura, unfortunately however is that I've never met a nice one out of the around 15 I've known/met(!)

Elsie/Elsa are fine as standalone names.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/09/2017 21:44

Cora.

manicinsomniac · 24/09/2017 21:44

Laura

Yes, I know about 50 adult Lauras. But no children at all so I think it will seem refreshing and different for her generation.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 24/09/2017 21:49

Cora, it’s one of my favourite names!

starkid · 24/09/2017 21:51

Cora :)

early30smum · 24/09/2017 21:53

Cora.

ilovepixie · 24/09/2017 21:55

What about Lara instead of Laura

nodogsinthebedroom · 24/09/2017 21:59

Thanks all!

In answer to the question - Elizabeth is fine, but I think the s makes it look softer somehow, which I prefer. Also it's less queenly.

Hmm, Cora is very popular! I just worry that it's having a "moment" and will sound hugely dated in 20yrs time Hmm

Tbh my favourite is Laura but I can see it's not getting much love here.

Not keen on Cara (that bloody Delvingne woman) or Lara (Croft) but thanks for suggestions.

greendale17 · 24/09/2017 22:07
