Hugo!

I can’t say it without sounding really posh - same with Hugh and therefore would avoid at all costs.

Pixilicious · 23/09/2017 21:26

Parents are tossers unless they are landed gentry

Sophronia · 23/09/2017 21:27

Posh, chinless

Mulch · 23/09/2017 21:34

Wonderful name for a Frenchie or pug

womanbehavingbadly · 23/09/2017 21:43

I can’t read it without imagining it being read in an overly posh, mocking tone.

TableMirror · 23/09/2017 21:45

Every Hugo I know is perfectly normal, it was on my list!

dantdmistedious · 23/09/2017 21:51

If mine had been boys one would have been Hugo. Love it.

MazDazzle · 23/09/2017 21:57

My fav. boys' name. Sadly it doesn't go with our surname. We are far from posh! It's definitely making a comeback.

ifcatscouldtalk · 23/09/2017 22:04

I've never met a Hugo. First thoughts, posh with lots of propertiesGrin.

2cats2many · 23/09/2017 22:05

Like fog; wet and thick.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 23/09/2017 22:11

 bit in the Fox/Oscar/Arlo mould - upper-middle-class try-hard.

timeisnotaline · 23/09/2017 22:13

It's a perfectly nice name . I do find all these connotations putting me off now.

Sandsnake · 23/09/2017 22:16

Quite posh, frequently bewildered but kind. Probably has dark hair.

I think it is a very nice name, OP.

Ttbb · 23/09/2017 22:21

Wonderful. Makes me think of victor hugo, was on our shortlist both times. Very nice, nuetral name.

BikeRunSki · 23/09/2017 22:23

Posh, privileged, self important, arrogant

vichill · 23/09/2017 22:27

Parents are a tad affected.

HeartburnCentral · 23/09/2017 22:27

I had an inflatable alien called Hugo years ago.

Thingvellir · 23/09/2017 23:31

Parents trying to be posh

Thingvellir · 23/09/2017 23:32

...unless it's a genuine nod to Victor Hugo per Ttbb by parents who have actually read Victor Hugo

Peeetle · 23/09/2017 23:35

Pretentious, privileged, annoying

SecretFreebirther · 23/09/2017 23:46

I love it, it's one of ds's names but me and dh had different opinions on it, I think preppy, he thinks fat!

catiinbo0ts · 24/09/2017 02:55

I have a Hugo! We're not trying to be posh and he isn't fat or chinless. It's a French name (DH is French)

He mostly gets called Hugs or Huggsy

kidneyssuck · 24/09/2017 02:57

My dog is called Hugo so I love it. I have a friend who named her son it though and whenever we’re together and someone asks ‘How’s Hugo’ I’m like oh he’s great!!... oh yeah... baby not dog my bad!’

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 24/09/2017 06:10

StatueInTheSky,

That sign's brilliant! Grin

OP,

I'm undecided about Hugo. I like the name itself, esp the meaning "mind, heart and spirit", and it works internationally.

I know one adult Hugo (late 30s), who is about as far from the stereotype as it's possible to be, and has the sharpest sense of humour ever. Have occasionally come across the 'old money/ family connections/ traditional' kind of Hugo, but wouldn't pre-judge before getting to know them better.

No little Hugos around here, but several Hughs.

Ploppie4 · 24/09/2017 06:17

Really like it. shortens well (Hugh or Hew). Middle class or posh. Well behaved child
