As we picked quite an unusual name for our son, Etienne, we are trying to think of different names for our next one. What are people's thoughts on the following?

The girls names I like:
Otillie
Georgina
Alexandra (Alex)
Saffron (Saffy)
Romilly (Milly)
Clementine (Clemmie)
Dulcie

Boys:
Otto
Jude
Louis
Levison
Wilfred (Wilf)
Maximilian (Max)
Rafe

Otillie for a girl

Jude for a boy... Please don't call your son Wilfred/Wilf Its the most common cat/dog name here, i have 10 friends with a wilf animal.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/09/2017 21:19

I like Louis and Clementine.
How about Jacques and Odette.

soupforbrains · 18/09/2017 21:20

I love Clementine and Wolf,

Have you considered Georgette? I feel like it would go with the vibe you seem to be going for more than Georgina.

Gaggleofgirls · 18/09/2017 21:21

I don't think Georgina, Alexandra or Max are unusual enough to go with Etienne.

mogulfield · 18/09/2017 21:22

Xeneth88 I am now picturing a Yorkshire terrier called Wilf! I see your point.

sugar I love Odette, thank you!

I think Saffron and Otto goes best with Etienne.

mogulfield · 18/09/2017 21:23

gaggle I was worried they were a bit too mainstream...

soup I like Georgette, I like names you can shorten to be Unisex (so George).

There is only one L in Ottilie.

NameChangeFamousFolk · 18/09/2017 21:28

I know several Saffrons and Judes. Not exactly mainstream, but Saffron definitely isn't unusual round here.

Clementine and Louis are lovely.

ZafiraCyclist · 18/09/2017 21:28

How about Saint?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 18/09/2017 21:33

Going against the grain but I think Max is a great match for Etienne. Not keen on Ottilie, I want to like it but just hear Utterly Butterly every time. Saffron is a good name too.

Alternatives:
Celestine
Vincent

Otillie is lovely, you could shorten it to Tilly if you wanted to

Juicyfrooty · 18/09/2017 21:38

The Etienne I know has siblings Pierre, Serge and Claudine

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/09/2017 22:12

For a girl Clementine.
For a boy Otto.
Other ideas.
Boys. Lucian. Lorenzo. Enzo. Casper. Sebastian. Gabriel. Finbar.
Girls. Amberly. Francesca. Audrey.
Persephone. Georgianne/a.
Miriam. Carolina. Cashmere. Madeleine. Maybelle. Rosabelle. Lilibelle. Dorothy. Maude.

Mrsknackered · 19/09/2017 09:45

I love all of your girls names minus Dulcie. I'm not a huge fan of Milly but love Romilly.

I like Max, Otto, Wilf and Louis for boys. Otto and Max the most.

I know 2 Etienne's (surprising!) and one has a sister called Amaia and the other has Zuhair and Moses.

Lemondrop99 · 19/09/2017 11:25

Lysander (Zander)

MammieBear · 19/09/2017 11:33

Dulcie and Louis are lovely and very unusual they go very well with big brother Etienne.

ibentmywookie · 19/09/2017 11:34

I love that you called your son the French equivalent of Steve. Not enough small Steves around.

Personally I'd go for a French girls name as well, I assume you or your partner is French?

harriettenightingale · 19/09/2017 11:35

Just wanted to say that I love Etienne OP.

mogulfield · 19/09/2017 16:02

Thanks harriet it really suits him. My DH has French family so it's a nod to his side.
Thanks for the comments, luckily my favourite names are coming out well in this discussion! I was expecting some harsher feedback to be honest, so pleased the names aren't too odd 👍

Celestine or Clementine

Clement or Quentin

NameChangeFamousFolk · 19/09/2017 17:57

A friend with a French OH has named her daughter Vionnet, which I quite like. Might also go with Etienne?

SandunesAndRainclouds · 19/09/2017 17:59

Out of interest, how do you pronounce Etienne? I was quite surprised at how different it was said in France to how I'd been saying it in my head! Or is the place name Étienne said differently?

LadyKyliePonsonbyFarquhar · 19/09/2017 18:02

It's pronounced Etty-enn, same as the town.
I would stick with the French theme - Louis or Clementine or Clémence. Odette is an old woman's name and reminds me of odious.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 19/09/2017 18:05

I love Ottilie. I know an Etienne with sisters Estelle and Celeste. Jude for a boy (would be my choice).
