Esme - what comes to mind when you think of this name? How would you describe the name?

Esme Weatherwax

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 17/09/2017 16:55

Lovely name. I think of one of my best friends from primary school. She pronounced it Ez-mee. Probably because of this I always think Ez-may sounds wrong, there's one in dc3's class, spelt Esmae. I think it actually is meant to be said May not Mee though.

Yourshakraishangingout · 17/09/2017 16:56

I say it in the Peaky Blinders voice!😂

My cousins baby's name and very popular ATM.Nice name though.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/09/2017 17:06

A lovely, soft sounding name.

Avocadosmoothie · 17/09/2017 17:08

It reminds me of a gypsy name.... I think because I watched peaky blinders! I wanted to see if anyone else thinks that!

I know a really racist woman called Esme who I deleted off Facebook because she would often write awful things. She was also very entitled and is somehow succeeding in life despite being a toad.
That being said, I always think what a lovely name wasted on her. If I met a nice little Esme I'm sure it would change my opinion!

MollyHuaCha · 17/09/2017 17:11

Lovely name. Bear in mind it has two common pronunciations so you and little Esme might have a lifetime of repeating the name and correcting people who use the wrong one!

Saucery · 17/09/2017 17:11

The DD of a manager I had years ago and an absolutely lovely little girl I know now who is very kind and caring.

biscuitmillionaire · 17/09/2017 17:13

I think of a pale, thin and sensitive girl from Victorian times.

MummaTwinkleToes · 17/09/2017 17:36

Also immediately thought of twilight but love the name

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/09/2017 18:01

Avocado, what in fresh hell, is wrong with Gypsy names ?

KadabrasSpoon · 17/09/2017 18:06

There's no such thing really. I'm half Romany and we just use the same names as everyone else.

missmouse101 · 17/09/2017 18:11

The name I wished I had called my daughter instead of Aithne

pieceofpurplesky · 17/09/2017 18:12

Gypsy name? Hmmmy Romany friend has a Mary and a Maggie. Gorgeous names. Have you been watching too much of the 'gypsy kids' TV show OP?
Makes me think of my friends gorgeous daughter.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 17/09/2017 18:13

A geriatric tabby cat.

elizabeth13 · 17/09/2017 18:14

I imagine fairy folk long blonde hair beautiful with fairy wings......well you did ask :)

TinselTwins · 17/09/2017 18:17

I think of that moronic line in Twilight that I mimic in a silly voice

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 17/09/2017 18:21

It's coming back?

I think of a grey haired, tight curled shampoo and set, pearls and Shetland wool round necked twinset in beige, with sensible brown leather brogues and a penchant for classy stationery.

winglesspegasus · 17/09/2017 18:25

my first thought was gypsys but not because of peaky blinders
more like mamabear said.
its a beautiful name and means loved
dutch pronounciation tho es-may

scrabbler3 · 17/09/2017 18:26

On the babycentre names board, there used to be occasional big arguments about its pronunciation i.e. ezmay v ezmee. That put me off it because I had thought that ezmee was the only option, having known two.

TinselTwins · 17/09/2017 18:27

It's been back a while now, old lady nsmes are very "now". There's lots of little Esmes about

Merida83 · 17/09/2017 18:27

The twilight books and films !

SueGeneris · 17/09/2017 18:29

Buttery was the first thing that came to mind. Not sure why though!

Avocadosmoothie · 17/09/2017 18:29

Sugarpie, i didn't say anything was wrong with a gypsy name!

Pieceofpurple, it's 100% from TV - there is a gypsy in Peaky Blinders called Esme!
