My first name is just Elizabeth and I think it's too long. A 4-syllable is an ass-ache to say quickly. So yes, Mary Elizabeth is definitely too long as a first name.

Also, don't call her Mary Jane. It's well-known slang for marijuana.

Reminds me too much of Mary Margaret from Once Upon A Time. I generally think Marie/Maria + (name) works best on the continent otherwise just sounds like an Ametican fictional character. In fact isn't Mary Elizabeth in the perks of being a wallflower

I think it's nice, I sounds pretty and substantial (iyswim) they are both classic names and won't embarrass her at all. It is rather long though.

I decided not to double barrel DD's name when she was born 2 years ago, partly because it was really fashionable/on trend to have a double barrelled name (think lots of Lily-Maes and Bella-Roses) but maybe a tiny bit because her first name is 3 syllables on its own anyway, though her second name is only 1 so it would have been fine.

If you really like it, have Elizabeth as a middle name. Both my DC have 2 middle names I think they sound lovely and Elizabeth is one of my DD's names

I actually prefer the spelling Elisabeth as it seems softer somehow.
