Could you give me a quick guesstimate on how popular Clara is?

I really like

Clara
Margot
Martha

However - thought Margot and Martha may be making a comeback, but what about Clara?

My other two DC have similar style names - not too kitsch (in my opinion), not too popular, and not too 'nana'.

Any other names gladly received! Thank you

I don't know any Claras round here (south manchester)

tinypop4 · 03/09/2017 15:13

I know 1 young toddler called Clara and that's in the South East. I think it's very nice

oldbirdy · 03/09/2017 15:18

Frazzled
You must be in a different part of South Manchester from me, I know 3, all under age 7.

yaela123 · 03/09/2017 18:43

I know 6 Claras - aged 80s, 16, 14, 7, 5 and 5

But then I do know a lot of kids (teacher, ex-brownie leader, have 6DC myself) so it does seem quite rare to me (I only know one of them well)

I think it is a lovely name!

Martha is way more common than Clara, but I only know 1 child called Margo

They are all nice IMO but my favourite is probably Clara, especially if you already have a Mabel (bit similar to others)

redrobinblue · 03/09/2017 19:19

Thank you everyone!

Lots in nort london under 5
3 at my daughter's nursery and it doesn't have many kids

1 Margot

Clara is the new Ava I think

Also used by Italian and polish parents as well as English (bit like Isabella wit Italian too) so multi culture names seem to have more popularity in big cities and be mor common

tiddleywinks27 · 04/09/2017 12:09

I know just one Clara...

fionadal · 05/09/2017 20:45

I know 3 Claras under 5. Gorgeous name, but yes definitely gaining in popularity.

What about Lara/Zara (much less used)

Dixiestamp · 05/09/2017 23:31

I only know one Clara ( I prefer Lara).

Baz13 · 06/09/2017 14:29

I wanted to call my 3rd child Clara, but we called her Mabel instead, as it sounds too similar to my name.

I still love the name and have put it back on my list as it's too pretty not to use.

I like Martha and Margot also- and same initials doesn't bother me in a sibset- just depends if it bothers you. What about Matilda?

Rockandrollwithit · 06/09/2017 14:35

I love Clara. It would have been on our girls short list but rhymes with our surname!

saritah · 07/09/2017 13:44

Clara is lovely! My gut feeling is it's gaining popularity but not that much. I reckon it will be in the top 100 soon but won't go really high. Unless you want to be really unique go for it!

Mclaren37 · 08/09/2017 06:35

I think a Clara goes best with Mabel. It does seem to be rather popular, I know two. It if it's your favourite then stick with it as it works very nicely.
My favourite from your list is Margot! (full disclosure, we have a two year old Margot, so am slightly biasedGrin. Two M names with two syllables might be a bit matchy. Instead of Margot or Martha what about Nora, Jemima, Tabitha, Mathilda, Nancy or Nell?

MrsFionaCharming · 08/09/2017 21:26

In their own, both lovely names, but together Clara and Mabel is a bit 'Victorian Scullery Maid' to me!

cuirderussie · 08/09/2017 21:29

I know three Claras under the age of seven. It's quite popular. I know two baby Marthas.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 09/09/2017 08:41

One of my DD2's middle names is Clara, I love it. I don't know personally any, but I know of one. East Midlands here.

Don't know any Marthas or Margots.

Maturestudent82 · 09/09/2017 08:49

Know quite a few marthas but no Clara, lovely name Smile

3DGlasses · 09/09/2017 09:42

I only know one Clara and she is 11 yrs old.

A friend just had a baby and called her Margot, the first time I've heard it used since The Good Life Grin.

Tillyscoutsmum · 09/09/2017 09:46

I know no Claras or Margots. Know 1 Martha (am a primary school teacher)

outofmymind2 · 09/09/2017 15:55

Love Margot - would definitely use it if I had a girl!
I really like Mabel and Margot together!

Clara is beautiful too!
