Aubrey: for a boy?

I absolutely love the name Aubrey, but thought it was only useable on a girl. However, after seeing that other thread, it seems that people still view it as a boys' name (yay!) is it useable on a boy then? Or do you think it's mean/he'll hate me...? If not, is it okay for a middle name??? If so, he'd be Charles Aubrey (Charlie) Smile if it is fine, he'll obviously be Aubrey Charles!

I assumed it was a boys name...didn't know it was used as a girls name...

How weird - I would only ever think of it as a boy's name.
I know of an 8 year old boy called Aubrey - I think it's fine...quite cool and quirky.

grufallosfriend · 30/08/2017 22:38

Aubrey is much cooler than Charles!

I know a one year old Auberon who goes by Aubrey...I quite like the unshortened version

Always known it as a male name, and have come across quite a few in South Wales.

Mind you, in this area the surname Aubrey seems unusually common, and maybe it's crossed over into being given as a first name. Definitely only to boys, though.

What did you choose? My LB is Aubrey. It's an 18th century english gentleman's name. Meaning a ruler of little people. Aubrey has become popular in America for females but it is originally a male name.

TatianaLarina · 29/06/2018 13:51

I’d go for Charles Aubrey.

Lots of female American Aubreys.

FizzyGreenWater · 29/06/2018 22:51

I would absolutely assume boy! Aubrey isn't a girl's name.

timeisnotaline · 29/06/2018 22:53

Aubrey is a boys name. I like it very much but didn’t use it because if I have a girl she will be Audrey , and Aubrey and Audrey is a bit much Grin

Bellaposy · 29/06/2018 22:54

Definitely ok for a boy. I know one who is 18 months - I'm NW.

sanityisamyth · 29/06/2018 22:55

I've taught a male Aubrey. Seems fine to me.

Chickoletta · 29/06/2018 22:58

There’s one in my son’s class, he’s 7 and a pain in the arse. I don’t mind it as a name. With this one, many of the kids couldn’t prounounce it properly until recently and he’s still know as Aubwee.

Joeybee · 30/06/2018 06:22

I think of it as a boys name for sure.
