35/40 Bump is called Mollie which we like but I want her to have a name that we can shorten so her nickname is Mollie. I'm not sure Mollie is very professional for when older.
I can only think of Margaret which I'm sure about.
TIA

Molly is a lovely name in its own right and sounds fine on an adult

Even if it didn't though, there are literally so many Maisey, Daisy, Poppy, Evie, Lexie about right now, it will be fine in 20 years time. She'll be in good company!

Mustardnowletsnotbesilly · 28/08/2017 20:06

20 years form now there will be surgeons called Daisy, Flo, Millie etc so nothing wrong with Mollie!

Good point!

Pacific that's what I meant, just mixed up my words. And still no edit on this site Blush

Applesandpears56 · 28/08/2017 20:08

Molly is fine by itself
Mollie isn't

BrutusMcDogface · 28/08/2017 20:13

I'd also agree with Molly rather than Mollie, tbh. But other than that, the name is fine as it is! What does your dp think?

candlerings · 28/08/2017 20:15

Amelia Amelia Amelia

Applesandpears56 · 28/08/2017 20:15

Melissa as a longer name?

Imstickingwiththisone · 28/08/2017 20:16

I prefer Molly too and if you do end up just going with it as her proper name then it fits better. Names ending 'ie' look more like they have been shortened from something else.

tararabumdeay · 28/08/2017 20:16

Molyneux. Known as Molly and super cool.

Wiki the name it's old French.

Applesandpears56 · 28/08/2017 20:17

Just to be clear if you have mollie as the nn not the full name then I think the mollie spelling is ok

BenLui · 28/08/2017 20:19

Mustard I'm sure you're joking about the blackmail thing, but just in case, please don't.

I know a chap whose wife did that, he still resents it more than 10 years later.

Wormysquirmy · 28/08/2017 20:21

What about Rosemary OP?
Mary is traditionally shortened to Molly

SoPassRemarkable · 28/08/2017 20:22

Isn't Molly in Sherlock Homes a sensible important scientist type person? I think Molly is a great name.

rabaria · 28/08/2017 20:24

Molly is absolutely fine on its own. But Molly, not Mollie

Mustardnowletsnotbesilly · 28/08/2017 20:28

DH likes Mollie, its literally the only name we both like, that and Xanthe.

Call her Molly, perfectly nice name.

Eldest ds aged 21 (and younger 19 and 17 year old dses) has lots of girls in his friendship group called Molly, Millie, Katie, Polly, Tilly,. And boys Freddie, Charlie, Archie. Theyll be the doctors, businessmen, accountants, teachers etc of the future.

Your Mollys path to the academia, professional set will have been well trodden by her namesakes.

igotyoubabe · 28/08/2017 20:36

Your name does not define which profession you will go into when your older. My GP is called Sally... intelligence and ambition play the biggest part!

grufallosfriend · 28/08/2017 20:36

I prefer Xanthe! Beautiful and elegant.

Linnet · 28/08/2017 20:53

I had a great aunt Molly. Her official name was Mary but because her mum was also Mary my great aunt was called Molly to stop any confusion.

malvinandhobbes · 28/08/2017 21:02

My baby has an unusual 5 letter name that ends in ie.

We gave her Evelyn as a middle name, so she can use that if she likes. Nothing silly about Evelyn.

However, all the baby girls in our circle have names that end in ie, i, or y.
Sophie, Elsie, Molly, Milly, Lottie, Ellie. The name we chose is unusual, but we are turned out on-trend anyway. The girls will grow up together and achieve great things.

OliviaBenson · 28/08/2017 21:34

If you are worried about it sounding professional go for the traditional spelling of Molly rather than the cutsie Mollie.

It's a lovely name!

WaaWaaWaaa · 28/08/2017 21:45

I think Molly/Mollie is lovely by itself. A head teacher/surgeon professional woman woukd surely be called miss/ms/Mrs soandso! Go ahead it's lovely
