Although I can't find an exact publication date, the ONS name data for 2016 is due to be published soon.

Chime in here with your predictions for the climbers and those that will fall.

Eva, Evie, Thea

Risers will be:

Isabella
Iris

Theo
Thor (I keep meeting nordic inspired ones. Odin too.)

Is anyone else surprised Jack is so high up the list still? Whenever I hear the name it's always directed at an older child, maybe 5 or 6. Not sure the last time I met a baby Jack.

Esker · 27/08/2017 08:33

Had anyone else met a lot of babies named Max recently? I love it and it was on my list for ds, but since he was born in December I have met five different babies called Max!

Mrsknackered · 27/08/2017 09:20

howthelightgetsin completely agree I don't actually know one under 8, I also don't know ANY baby Oliver's, the youngest one I know is well into his teens.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/09/2017 10:49

And the list is out!

Albie, Arlo, Ezra, Finn, Jasper and Jesse entered the top 100 for boys, replacing Callum, Connor, Jamie, Kian, Seth and Sonny.

Felicity, Iris, Luna and Lydia replaced Bethany, Hollie, Katie and Lacey in the girls' top 100.

LesDennishair · 20/09/2017 10:53

I guessed Aria on the other thread. I think it could have actually been the highest riser in the top 100 for girls.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/09/2017 10:56

Interesting - I didn't know Luna was so popular. Well done to the Iris spotters!

Girls top 10:

  1. Olivia
  2. Amelia (these two have switched places)
  3. Emily
  4. Isla
  5. Ava
  6. Isabella
  7. Lily
  8. Jessica
  9. Ella
10. Mia

Boys

  1. Oliver
  2. Harry
  3. George
  4. Jack (out of the top three for I think the first time in 20+ years?!)
  5. Jacob
  6. Noah
  7. Charlie
  8. Muhammad
  9. Thomas
10. Oscar

Perversely pleased to see that DD's name has dropped eight places having been quite a big climber in previous years!

HeyRoly · 20/09/2017 11:02

Wow, Elsie and Ivy at 31 and 33. I knew they would be shooting up the charts, but I didn't think they'd be that high.

Has Violet gone down a bit?

(I have a thing for old lady names, as you can probably tell Grin)

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/09/2017 11:05

Elsie up 2
Ivy up 9
Violet up 3

Oh, not as much as I was expecting actually. I know Ivy has increased massively over the past three years or so.

euanthesheepiloveyou · 20/09/2017 11:39

Quite chuffed that all 6 of mine are still outside the top 100.

Desperad0 · 20/09/2017 11:57

howthelightgetsin you were right, with all the Theos, Theodores and Teddys together they would be more like number 4 or 5!

kally195 · 20/09/2017 12:16

Ours continues to decline in popularity and had slid into the mid 600s now. Quite pleased really, as we were both 80's kids with at least four other kids with the same name in our classes all the way through school (and were therefore given 'fun' descriptive names).

Am I the only horrible judgey pants who reads the full list and internally berates those who seem to think that spelling Thea with an 'i' (or similar) makes it more unique?!

Threeandabit · 20/09/2017 12:19

Has it been released yet?

Threeandabit · 20/09/2017 12:20

Sorry, ignore me!

juneybean · 20/09/2017 12:24

Ooo the ones on my list there were only 9 of my boys name and 0 of my girls name, hurrah!

DiegoMadonna · 20/09/2017 12:36

Arlo went from 102 to 49 - WOW. I knew it was super popular this year but that is a huge jump.

No surprise to see Ezra breaking into the top 100 either.

TheVoiceOfTreason · 20/09/2017 12:41

Damn it, Isaac (my preferred name if if I have a boy) appears to have gone up. 😔

DiegoMadonna · 20/09/2017 12:43

Actually Isaac was 20th last year and this year. But went from 2829 to 2662 babies, so slightly less popular this year.

TheVoiceOfTreason · 20/09/2017 13:07

Cheers Diego! I still can't get the ONS list to work, I've just gone from the mumsnet article so I hadn't seen what the movements were, and thought from recollection it was mid 20s last year! Cheers.

My other fave boy names are all pretty high too...my favourite girl names are all either v high (Evie/Eva for e.g.), or not in there at all (Larisa!)

EmmyInTheSticks · 20/09/2017 18:16

Ronnie and Reggie in the top 100! I have never met a baby with either of these names.

LesDennishair · 20/09/2017 18:45

Iris has jumped quite a bit. I think that was mentioned.
