For a goat that family have just acquired.

My DC have been given the proud task of choosing the name.

We want something a bit, well, goaty and down to earth, but it has to be a "real name" (ie a human name).

DC1 wants a Viking name (I think inspired by the fact that Vikings and goats have horns and beards in common Grin).

Current front runners are Trudie and Helga, but we thought MN might come up with more ideas.

We haven't met the recipient of the name yet, but apparently she is mainly white with some chestnut brown speckles, and is very playful.

Our goats were Hilda and Evadne, after Hinge & Bracket.
Evadne would eat Hilda's tail given the chance.

We all LOVE Brunhilda, Myrtle, and Thora, so I think (hope) it will be one of those. DC are writing all the favourites to be picked out of a hat with great ceremony when we get to the family members' house. DH and I are not allowed to see what they have written, it is top secret apparently.

I rather like Ragnhilda, but we are not quite sure how to pronounce it

Margoat is also excellent Grin, as is Goatrude, but MIL is called Margot, so I have made DC promise faithfully not to put that one in the hat!

Will update on Saturday when the naming ceremony is over.

Sitting here laughing at all the mentions of Gertrude, as it's my second middle name, and I hate it. However it was after my dad's grandmother, and it meant a lot to him, so I've kept it, as it's only a middle name.

Great name for a goat though.

haba · 10/08/2017 20:26

My DD's name is listed above! She's definitely as stubborn and feisty as a goat...

Shame about Margot, I absolutely love the name Smile
Now, is your MIL an old goat...?

haba · 10/08/2017 20:27

What about Clem(ency), btw?Grin

NipInTheAir · 10/08/2017 20:33

Agnes

Following on from the Saxon theme I thought of Cnut. As the goat is female and this is MNet, It's obvious. I assume the goat will be atrocious.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 10/08/2017 20:50

Ragnhilda would be 'Ray-nee-el-da'

Usually comes without the A on the end. The daughter of Erik Bloodaxe.

Crunchymum · 10/08/2017 22:11

I met a Gretal today (6 week old goat!!)

lisara79 · 10/08/2017 22:27

I'm going to vote for Thora!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 11/08/2017 00:24

SuckingEggs · 11/08/2017 00:30

Ilgetma Goat

NoCureForLove · 11/08/2017 00:34

Clovis. Clovis the goat.

MercianQueen · 11/08/2017 01:13

It's a goat, therefore will always be known as "you utter bastard", regardless of its given name Wink

notangelinajolie · 11/08/2017 01:16

Claudia is the clunkiest name ever. Definitely would suit a feisty goat.

Tofflewaffle · 11/08/2017 13:46

Marigold is my hypothetical future goat name.
Otherwise Gertrude, Mildred and Gretchen fit the bill

Aquamarine1029 · 11/08/2017 16:27

Edna

n0ne · 11/08/2017 16:33

Hilarious that Brunhilde keeps coming up! I posted a thread a couple of months back on Brunhild as a middle name for DC2!!!! I guess it suits a goat better Wink
