Husband hates my favorite name! :(

I'm 20 weeks pregnant of my second child and I'm so thrilled I'm having a girl! Only problem is my husband doesn't like my favorite name at all.
I really like the name Elise, but he says people will associate it with the car Lotus Elise and it's a chavvy name. I'm not from the UK, so I'm not sure this is what people would think of it. I'd LOVE to hear some honest opinions please!!!
The other names we've been discussing are:
Amelie
Maya
Vivienne
Luna
Erin

I'm very open for suggestions! Thank you!!!

I didn't even know it was a car!

NoRetro · 10/08/2017 08:35

You have to both like the name, though!

WhenLoveAndCakeCollide · 10/08/2017 12:49

OP - I've been in the same situation, thanks to a blooming car name.

Cressida is one of my favorite names, but I now live in the U.S., and there was once a model of car here, the Toyota Cressida.

When I first suggested the name, DH recoiled in horror and said, "like the car?" Cue a puzzled face from me, as I had no idea what he was talking about. He explained, and I still couldn't see a problem, as the car hasn't been manufactured for over 25 years. However he just wouldn't come around and I would never use a name he didn't like.

It seems like you are both on board with Vivienne, which I have to say, is my favorite of the names you listed. Beautiful name.

Topseyt · 10/08/2017 14:30

Perhaps Vivienne Elise?

FizzyGreenWater · 10/08/2017 15:42

I wouldn't think of the car, but I also don't like the name Elise at all so the thought of being persuaded to let my child be called it is horrid!

So I'm with your DH. He's not being unreasonable to dislike the name, you can't understand at all as you LOVE it. But names are so personal, there's no objective opinion. You both need to like a name a lot before it can be considered, really.

I like Vivienne best of your others, and like Luna too.

handonhip · 11/08/2017 09:21

Would he go for the fabulous Elisa? (I knew an amazing Spanish woman with that name.)

Troika · 11/08/2017 09:27

Elise is a beautiful name and classic rather than chavvy.

But if he doesn't like it he doesn't like it.

Sounds as though you have managed to reach a compromise.

OlennasWimple · 11/08/2017 09:31

Elise is lovely, as is Eloise

Vivienne will always be Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman for me...

greendale17 · 11/08/2017 10:26

I agree with your husband, round here it is seen as chavvy and stereotypical

Liv85 · 11/08/2017 15:39

Oh wow! So many great replies!
Some of you suggested Eloise and I'd never considered it before, but I really liked it and so did the husband! We might have found our compromise name! Yay! I still like Vivienne, but Eloise is starting to grow on me and our first child is named after my italian grandpa Enzo, so I kinda like the sound of their names together. Enzo & Eloise.

Thank you guys so much for all your feedback!

I've got an Erin 😊 Elise is lovely, I don't associate it with a car. But if your dp hates it you're going to have to choose another name.. I like Luna but wouldn't go with our surname lol.

C0untDucku1a · 11/08/2017 18:39

Enzo and Eloise are a great combination! My french penpal at school was called eloise. and enzo is one of my favourite vampires. Great choices.

Tbh when i first glanced at the op at thought the name you wanted was lotus and i was about to agree that you couldnt have that!

TheNaze73 · 11/08/2017 18:41

We had that when I wanted to call my first born Datsun.

Elise, is a lovely name

MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2017 18:55

I know a Jenson but I think he's not named after the Jensen Interceptor. Shame really.

Enzo and Elise might leave you wondering what car to name DC3 after. You could have Clio, Megane, Cherry, Cressida, Citroen Dyane, ... or would it need to start with an E?

Chloris33 · 11/08/2017 21:30

I was going to say husbands are annoying. I would love to have Rosalie but mine says it is a gypsy name! But it's good you've found a compromise name - Eloise is pretty.

user1496121365 · 11/08/2017 21:49

What about Eloise? Or, you could tell him about the famous piano piece "Für Elise" by Beethoven - very posh and not the least chavvy!

silkybear · 11/08/2017 21:56

I had my heart set on Marianne but DH hated it. Maybe you can use it for me! Elena or Elodie might fit the bill?

Summerdaisyboo · 11/08/2017 22:04

Love the name Vivienne. Eloise really pretty too. My DH's German granny died just recently and she was called Elisabeth, shortened to Elise.. She was always so very elegant so I associate the name with her and not with a car :-)

Polly85 · 11/08/2017 23:39

Luna ❤️

sakura06 · 12/08/2017 07:32

Eloise is lovely Smile

Minxmumma · 12/08/2017 19:17

Elise is a beautiful name. I had no idea it was a car.... and my daughter's a mechanic Grin

Vivienne would be my next favourite. I don't like Maya - my brain jumos to mayonnaise sorry.

dotdotdotmustdash · 13/08/2017 22:38

I think it's lovely.

Not as lovely as my DCs names though - Sunbeam, Viva, Capri and Cavalier.

(I jest)
