Husband hates my favorite name! :(

I'm 20 weeks pregnant of my second child and I'm so thrilled I'm having a girl! Only problem is my husband doesn't like my favorite name at all.
I really like the name Elise, but he says people will associate it with the car Lotus Elise and it's a chavvy name. I'm not from the UK, so I'm not sure this is what people would think of it. I'd LOVE to hear some honest opinions please!!!
The other names we've been discussing are:
Amelie
Maya
Vivienne
Luna
Erin

I'm very open for suggestions! Thank you!!!

Amelie is really lovely. x

junebirthdaygirl · 08/08/2017 23:44

Elise is lovely. Hold it in reserve and just after watching you go through labour your dh will be ready to promise you anything and you will have your little Elise

Fizzyboo · 08/08/2017 23:53

Never heard of the car.
Not chavvy at all!
Reminds me of the song by the Cure, A letter to Elise.

Ham69 · 09/08/2017 00:02

Love Elise

Liv85 · 09/08/2017 00:12

Thank you ladies for all your help!

I guess I'm at that crazy hormonal stage where I think my opinion should matter the most since I'm the one going through all the pains. But of course I want to be reasonable and I don't think it's fair to force my DH to have a daughter whose name he really doesn't like.
It's clear to me that it is a matter of his personal preference rather than the fear of people thinking of a car. I just didn't want to let Elise go without trying...
I agree compromise is the way forwards. I tend to like the feminine french names (Elise, Vivienne and Amelie) and my husband prefers the more modern sounding ones (Maya, Luna and Erin) but he seems to like Vivienne so it's very nice to know it had a posivite response among you mums!
I'll probably go with Vivienne Rose then. It's still very pretty and it won't cause any more stress.

Thank you so much! You've been all incredibly helpful and I really appreciate your imput.

Liv 😊

I like Vivienne the most.

GreenTulips · 09/08/2017 00:41

What about

Alicia - slightly different

Callamia · 09/08/2017 00:48

Ask your husband if he's ever heard of Beethoven - für Elise deffo came before the.car...
It's a German name isn't it? Does it have the same root as Alice?

Dixiestamp · 09/08/2017 01:42

Callamia- I think it's from Elizabeth rather than Alice.

I love it- it's my DD middle name. What about Elisa or Eloise instead?

SuperBeagle · 09/08/2017 02:46

If he hates a name, it's off the table. It doesn't really matter his reasons. My DH automatically vetoed a couple of my favourite names, and I did the same with some of his. Both parents have to like/love the name.

Of your list, I like Erin best. I don't mind Luna either. Prefer Amelia to Amelie and Mia to Maya. You could even have an Amelia with the nickname Mia, like in Princess Diaries. Grin

Topseyt · 09/08/2017 02:47

Elise is lovely. Not chavvy at all and it certainly wouldn't automatically make me think of a car.

Try it out regularly on friends and relatives in earshot of him and see what reactions you get. He may come round to it.

AccrualIntentions · 09/08/2017 07:59

I like Elise, but that's kind of irrelevant since he hates it. From your list I love Erin.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/08/2017 08:17

Elise is a beautiful name, I would 100% be happy to use it.

Lemondrop99 · 09/08/2017 11:00

I wouldn't associate Elise with the car (and if anyone does, isn't it quite a cool car?), and I think it's a classic name, not 'chavvy'

Elsie?

MikeUniformMike · 09/08/2017 11:37

I would associate Elise with the car ('loads of trouble usually serious') and with Fur Elise, but is that such a bad thing. It's a pretty name.
Most people would associate Elsa with Frozen or the lioness. It's still a nice name.
Amelie to me is from the film and is too popular. I don't like Maya. Luna - lunatic?
Vivienne and Erin are both fine.

Scattymere · 09/08/2017 13:34

How about Elsie/Ella/Isla or Elsa? Pretty similar.

NikiBabe · 09/08/2017 13:51

LTB. Just kidding Wink

I think it is a beautiful name and it reminds me of Beethoven's Für Elise.

I had no idea there was a car called Elise.

Amatree · 09/08/2017 13:56

**Phoolani - if that's true, what a nasty and manipulative thing to do.

I really like Elise but we can't use it as a close family members name. I've never heard of that car and wouldn't associate it!
I like all your names, your taste seems similar to mine Smile
One of the names on my shortlist for this baby if it's a girl is Annaliese, which has a similar sound.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 09/08/2017 17:03

Never heard of the Lotus Elise Confused But then I'm not somebody to associate the name Cleo with a Clio or even someone called Mercedes with a car.

I love Elise. Also love Annaliese. Know of an Elissa, and a girl Ellis. Eliza?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/08/2017 18:48

How about Alyssa ?

llangennith · 09/08/2017 19:26

Never heard of Lotus Elise but I love the name Elise, and whether I like it or not it's certainly not a chavvy name.

MuseumGardens · 10/08/2017 08:20

Elise is nice. I wouldn't think of a car but then cars bore me a bit so I'm not really au fait with all the different types
