Deborah? That spelling...not Debra, not to be shortened to Debbie (if possible - I know I can't control this with friends in the future, etc!!). Just Deborah?

Noooo. No no. Sorry.

It's so Karen/Joanne/Sharon.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 28/07/2017 11:53

Twas a name from my generation, I know many lovely Deborahs. Smile However it will be Debs with nursery/school staff and definitely as soon as she's old enough to have a friendship group.

SweetheartTreacleTart · 28/07/2017 12:06

Slightly too old lady like for me.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/07/2017 12:11

We have a lovely little 4 year old Deborah at school. I remember thinking 'what a lovely name' and how nice it was to hear it again when she first started... Great choice!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 28/07/2017 12:26

It's my sister's name - she's in her fifties and it has never been shortened. She told me once that it means "bee". I like it because it suits her - quite a serious name for a baby I suppose, but they don't stay babies for long ....

Lizibet · 28/07/2017 12:34

Really lovely. A little old fashioned but in an endearing way.

DramaAlpaca · 28/07/2017 12:35

I think it's really lovely too.

sarahja99 · 28/07/2017 13:03

I like it

Needsomeflapjacks · 28/07/2017 13:08

Poor bairn. .

glowwormsunite · 28/07/2017 13:10

Yes...but not a 'bairn' for very long though, flapjacks.

Nothing wrong with it, it's a perfectly acceptable name in a sea of made up names it is lovely hear it being considered again.. How refreshing!!

chowmeinchick · 28/07/2017 13:45

No. No. No.

It's like Sharon, Diane, Christine. Please don't do it.

Sophronia · 28/07/2017 13:52

I like it! It's an old Biblical name that deserves a comeback.

implantsandaDyson · 28/07/2017 14:01

It's very of its time like Nichola, Joanne. It's dated.

Mol1628 · 28/07/2017 14:05

I like it a lot. :)

cathf · 28/07/2017 14:06

It makes me laugh when people describe names like Deborah as 'no, no, it's dated' yet describe names like Ava, Mabel etc as 'gorgeous'.
Why are we such slaves to fashion?

Heygirlheyboy · 28/07/2017 14:10

I'm not mad on it but quite like Diane and don't mind Joanne. There's a reason those names were popular!

Migraleve · 28/07/2017 14:16

I really like it, but be prepared for a nick name to evolve because it does happen. Not always of course but lots of DD friends names have been shortened by them.

There is a Joanna who is known as jojo and her mum hates it. There is a Susan who hates her name and goes by susie, her mum isn't happy. There is a molly who gets called dolly, again the mum isn't happy as she called her DD molly not dolly. There is an Andre who goes by Andy but parents are happy with, also Steven who is known now as stevie, parents ok: dans parents are not so happy as they called their son Daniel; equally cammy's parents are aghast that Cameron is no longer know as such. DD is 16, friends from 15-17 ish

So yes the name is nice but the idea that you can't shorten will be taken from you before these kids even hit high school

Tilapia · 28/07/2017 14:17

I like it

NerrSnerr · 28/07/2017 14:28

'We were born within an hour of each other...' immediately springs to mind for me.

ThinkOfTheHorses · 28/07/2017 14:32

I have an auntie Debby ... nice enough name for a middle aged woman ... I'd have been embarrassed in HS to be a Debs surrounded by Ava's, Unas and Roses

pleasepassthevino · 28/07/2017 14:45

What Nerr said! ^

MrsMozart · 28/07/2017 14:50

It will defube shortened and she'll be forever correcting people.

I've known:
Deborah - always and v angry if shortened, so pretty much daily;
Debbie - never Deborah or Deb;
Deb - Deborah okay but ballistic if Debbie.

user1459464195 · 28/07/2017 16:48

Nerr me too Grin
"Let's all meet up in the year 2000...."

I like Deborah. Yes it could be seen as a little dated but it's got biblical roots. You may be ahead of the curve OP. Good solid choice and she'll probably be the only one in a sea of Ellies, Islas and Evies.
