What do you think of the name Elspeth. I love it but am aware many will find it weird

Beautiful and original without being ridiculous

SuperBeagle · 26/07/2017 10:28

I'm not a fan.

Bumpitup44 · 26/07/2017 10:32

Really like it, traditional yet unusual. Would possibly be shortened to Beth though? Or Ellie? (But it's a P not a B so it might not🤔🤔)

MsPassepartout · 26/07/2017 10:32

I like it

adifferentnameforthis · 26/07/2017 10:32

Love it

CharleyAnn · 26/07/2017 10:48

How would it be pronounced? I've never heard of it before! Smile

MissBax · 26/07/2017 10:50

Really like it, I'm a big fan of the traditional names having a come back :)

TheForgetfulCat · 26/07/2017 10:50

Sweet for a little girl and elegant for a grown up. Might make me think there were Scottish connections, in a good way.

Have a friend with an Elspeth shortened to Elsie, both of which I like!

Elspeth, lovely, and not weird at all, its the Scottish version of Elizabeth, so well known in some places.

Pigofwar · 26/07/2017 11:12

Not a fan, sorry. It sounds mean/witchy to me 🤷🏽‍♀️

Sophronia · 26/07/2017 11:47

Lovely!

Laquila · 26/07/2017 11:52

Lovely name

HeartburnCentral · 26/07/2017 11:54

Lovely. But it might get mispronounced as ElsBeth. There was a character in 'The Good Wife' called Elspeth. She was a bit 'out there' but quirky.

badg3r · 26/07/2017 12:01

I really like it.

ElfrideSwancourt · 26/07/2017 12:15

I love it too

IJustGotHitByADeer · 26/07/2017 13:56

Love it Smile would use it if I could but we know someone with the name

Pallisers · 26/07/2017 14:00

Love it.

Also love Ishbel

Passmethecrisps · 26/07/2017 14:02

It is lovely and I imagine extremely unusual anywhere other than Scotland.

It also makes me think of the Family Ness - which is no bad thing!

bridgetreilly · 26/07/2017 14:06

It's not weird at all! I really like it, and Elsie is a lovely shortened form.

BoudicasBoudoir · 26/07/2017 14:14

It's my middle name. I'm Scottish. I used to hate it (I didn't like the 'pth' sound, I think) but now I quite like it.

I've lived in England for years now and I've never noticed people finding it weird - and I never have to spell it out for people.

lazycrazyhazy · 26/07/2017 14:55

I love it, I'd assume Scottish connections.

Guccibelt · 26/07/2017 14:56

Far too old fashioned for me

Guccibelt · 26/07/2017 14:56

And hard to say

lazycrazyhazy · 26/07/2017 14:58

The Flame Trees of Thika from the novel by Elspeth Huxley was a huge hit in the 1980s so I'm surprised if people old enough wouldn't recognise it. Not odd at all IMO and I'm from the SW of England.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 26/07/2017 14:59

Love it. I know 2- one who just turned 40 and a 6 mo baby. It works for both.
