I love it but worry she would spend a lifetime correcting everyone.

Do you know any?

I would say Row ee na.

However it does make me think of kettles.

AddALemon · 25/07/2017 09:31

Row en na

ASDismynormality · 25/07/2017 09:32

Row ee nuh

SuperBeagle · 25/07/2017 09:32

Row-enna.

The "enna" bit being how you would pronounce McKenna.

Rowena would be row-eena, with the "eena" bit being the same as in the word hyena.

EmmyInTheSticks · 25/07/2017 09:32

Row (as in row your boat) ee na.

I really like it.

SoupDragon · 25/07/2017 09:32

Roh enna

(So, row as in a row of things, not row as in argument!)

SuperBeagle · 25/07/2017 09:33

Also, no, I don't know any Rowennas/Rowenas, but my best friend is an Edwina and despises it because it gets shortened to "Wee" by everyone (as opposed to the obvious Ed/Eddie). Also, the fact that it has the word wiener in it, essentially...

EmmyInTheSticks · 25/07/2017 09:33

I only know one who is about 40 and from the Phillipines.

Woodling · 25/07/2017 09:33

Row-enn-ah

ExplodedCloud · 25/07/2017 09:35

Row enn er
I know a Rowenna but no Rowenas.

therootoftheroot · 25/07/2017 09:36

Row_enna

Rowena is row-ee-na

Love the second one

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 25/07/2017 09:38

How can it be row ee nah? There is only one e? Surely it has to be a short e not a long ee?

CatInTheMat · 25/07/2017 09:39

Roh-enn-ah

It's the name of my best friend's daughter, she is 15. Fwiw I don't think she's ever had any major trouble with pronunciation.

CatInTheMat · 25/07/2017 09:40

Oh actually my neighbour is Rowena too, she's in her 60s so its a name of all ages to me.

elderflowerprosecco · 25/07/2017 09:53

Hmm, it does look like she'd be correcting people constantly.

It's Rowenna with two 'n's, hence the Row-enn-uh pronunciation.

Ro-WENN-a

I know a Rowena which is Ro-WEE-na. Love the shortening Ro!

RiverTam · 25/07/2017 10:32

Row-en-ah.

Same as Morwenna.

Surprised that anyone would think that's an 'ee' sound.

BillBrysonsBeard · 25/07/2017 10:36

I would say Row-enna but know people who would say Row-eena. So yeah, lifetime of correcting people Grin

Ontopofthesunset · 25/07/2017 10:41

The lack of phonics instruction in UK schools in the 80s and 90s shows up in these threads (though I know lots of names have idiosyncratic pronunciations).

Rowenna is Roh-enn-uh. Rowena is Roh-ee-nuh. The final 'uh' is the unstressed vowel known as a schwa.

DramaAlpaca · 25/07/2017 10:56

Rowenna is Roh-enn-uh. Rowena is Roh-ee-nuh

Like this ^^

Rowenna is gorgeous, I prefer it to Rowena.

MikeUniformMike · 25/07/2017 14:48

I would do a double take as I'd think it was a typo for Rowena. I'd say Ro-wenna. It's pretty.

Sophronia · 25/07/2017 15:07

Ro-wen-a. Rowena would be row-ee-na. I much prefer Rowenna.

34AQuid · 25/07/2017 15:10

Ro-en-ah

Ro -een-ah would have only one 'n'.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 25/07/2017 15:15

I'd say Row-ennuh. Double n shortens the vowel but she'd probably end up correcting people who don't read it properly. My DSis Jenna is forever called Jemma

Out2pasture · 25/07/2017 15:35

I've met a few
3 syllables
Row E ( long e) nah
