I love it but worry she would spend a lifetime correcting everyone.

Do you know any?

Row-enn-a. The double 'n' indicates a short e.

Rowena one 'n' would be Row-ee-na. I used to know someone with this name a long time ago, but it's very unusual I think.

Pemba · 25/07/2017 15:37

Your way is similar to Morwenna.

Firefries · 25/07/2017 15:43

Ro-wee-nah.

TheNumberfaker · 25/07/2017 15:50

Rowenna rhymes with Morwenna
Rowena rhymes with hyena
Just like pp have said. Prefer Rowenna - sound and spelling.

IThoughtYouSaidGin · 25/07/2017 15:53

Row-en-ah

And then Rowena Row-een-ah

SueGeneris · 25/07/2017 15:55

Row Enna

I also like Ramona

EvelynWardrobe · 25/07/2017 15:57

Row-en-ah for me too.

Do you like Morven?

MikeUniformMike · 25/07/2017 16:04

I don't particularly. It suits Morven Christie.
I like Morwen but only if you are welsh speaking - it's pronounced MOR-wen (Morr as is Morris, wen as in Wendy) not More-Win.

MadisonAvenue · 25/07/2017 16:05

Row-en-ah.

First glance though I thought it was Rowena.

InvisableLobstee · 25/07/2017 16:14

I think it sounds nicer pronounced Row- enn-a as most posters suggested, rather than the Row-een-a.
I have a friend named Kathleen and she always complained people would drag out the ee sound and make it Kath- leeeeeeeen. So I think that long ee is awkward even though I love those types of Celtic names.

BillBrysonsBeard · 25/07/2017 20:27

I can't help thinking of this Grin

Mrsknackered · 25/07/2017 20:33

Roh-enna. I don't see how Roh- eena could be it

peachlemonandgin · 25/07/2017 21:34

I am a Rowenna!

Obviously, all women named Rowenna are intelligent, talented and beautiful Wink but I wouldn't ever choose it for a child.

I've had a lifetime of people calling me Roweeeeena (even when I clearly say it's Ro-when-uh) or worse in some ways because it isn't even a NAME, Row-Anna. I appeared in the local paper aged 3 with some other little girls at a preschool project and there underneath it says our names - mine spelled as Rowena Hmm

On the phone I constantly get called Joanna as well, if things weren't confusing enough.

However my mother did consider Morwenna which sounds like something out of the Addams Family so I think I got off lightly.

I've considered changing my name on more than one occasion as there are just so many people who say it wrong and it is tiresome beyond belief correcting them. But I am 'Rowenna' now.

Joeybee · 25/07/2017 23:07

I am unsure if it should be pronounced 'Row-ee-na' or 'Row-en-na", but on first glance I would've said 'Row-ee-na' I think.

Joinourclub · 25/07/2017 23:37

My first answer was Row EE nuh because I didn't notice the double n. I'd only need correcting once though.

I think spellings aren't as important as people make out. Most people who know me, met me in person and I TOLD them my name. They didn't have to read it first.
