Liora

I don't know how I feel about this name but it is a diminutive of Eleanor which is a very special name for personal reasons. I dislike Nora and can't use Eleanor as its too close to a name I've already used. I absolutely LOVE Elora but 2 out of 3 of my girls have names beginning with E so I'd like to break the trend. Also like it spelt Leora but prefer Liora as it looks prettier IMO. Honest opinions please! A middle name might be Ruby, another special name to me, would it go together? TIA

I love it, very pretty and unusual without being silly.
I also like Leona.

pynk · 23/07/2017 20:54

I prefer leora as I wouldn't know how to say liora. It could be Lie-ora or Lee-ora.

It's very pretty sounding though.

mayhew · 23/07/2017 20:55

Sounds like a disinfectant name. Sorry

MikeUniformMike · 23/07/2017 20:56

I think it's lovely.

Sophronia · 23/07/2017 21:02

It's a Hebrew name meaning "my light". I like it!

TheDowagerCuntess · 23/07/2017 21:09

It's nice.

Another suggestion is the Spanish Leonora, which is pronounced Ley-oh-nora. I met a little one with this name, and it was shortened to Leo (Lay-o).

Bubbaboo2 · 23/07/2017 21:12

I like it! Pretty name
I also like Nell which is a diminutive of Eleanor :)

Migraleve · 23/07/2017 21:26

It looks like a typo tbh

Khara · 23/07/2017 21:49

I prefer Liara but that's the name of a video game character

JoyJoyJoyJoy · 23/07/2017 22:24

I think it's really lovely! Go for it!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/07/2017 22:42

Yes, but prefer the spelling Leora.

Mamabear4180 · 23/07/2017 23:44

Thanks for the feedback! Seems pretty positive overall Smile

Leonora is nice but I'm not crazy about the 'Leo' part. I did look at Lenora but I preferred Liora for the sound.

I'm not fixed on the spelling and do like Leora but for some reason I feel like Liora looks like a name in its own right and Leora seems like a shortened version of Eleanora or similar. Just a theory though! I don't mind correcting people and Lie-ora or Lee-ora are both quite nice to my ears anyway for some reason.

I don't know that disinfectant?

What about Laura . It's a bit of a throwback but it's pretty.

Gaggleofgirls · 24/07/2017 02:31

Just a thought about pronunciation? Are you aiming for Lee or Lie?
You don't want to be constantly correcting people.

Gaggleofgirls · 24/07/2017 02:33

Also Ruby as middle might feel a bit too rrrrrrrrrrrr. My name is a bit like this and could be a tongue twister!

juliasalinger · 24/07/2017 04:29

It's not a name that I would be confident guessing the pronunciation (ly or lee) and my first thought was: like Kiora the drink.

Like others I think Leona/Leonora are much prettier.

Guccibelt · 24/07/2017 06:55

Not keen and never heard of it. I know a Leonie and always thought it was lovely.

Veterinari · 24/07/2017 07:01

Leora is a better spelling - less confusion over pronounciation and less like Kiora (juice brand)

Leonie
Elena

user1471547428 · 24/07/2017 20:17

It's very pretty, I think of it as a Hebrew name.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 24/07/2017 20:30

Don't dislike it, but far prefer Lara.

Or Lea/ Leah/ Lia.

Ragusa · 24/07/2017 21:44

It's a lovely name. Unusual without being try-hard, frilly or fussy. Leonor (as in the name beloved of European royalty) is also lovely IMO.

Raines100 · 24/07/2017 21:57

I read it as lie-ora first due to the spelling. I prefer other variations of the name: Eleanora, Leonora, Leonie.
Also not sure it works with Ruby. I think the ra ending sounds clumsy going into another R.

Mamabear4180 · 25/07/2017 10:33

Thanks everyone! I'd pronounce it Lee-ora so cam understand why Leora might be easier than Liora. Will have a think as I do like both versions Smile

Liana (lee-anna), maybe?

I also really like Leonie and Nell.
