Dh and I are looking for a middle name, something derived from Elizabeth to honour his late grandmother (Betty). We both like Eliza but it rhymes with our surname and we aren't that mean. To make life harder, DSis middle name is Elizabeth and mine is Beth so can't won't use them.

We've not narrowed down a first name yet but likely to be along the lines of Lydia/Chloe/Natasha/Holly type style.

Help please!

I'd just use Elizabeth, I don't think having an Aunt with the same middle name is a big deal at all. If your definitely against it though a few derivatives that I can think of

Bess/Bessie
Lilibet
Bette
Lizzie
Elspeth

Isabel is the Spanish form of Elizabeth so that could be another option or one of the variations (Isabelle, Isabella, Isobel, etc.)

Elise?

I don't think rhyming middle and last name matters too much? I'm biased though as I have an Eliza and it's the best name ever IMO :-)
Otherwise I would vote for Elise, I like it pronounced the French way Eh-leez rather than Eh-leess.

@dumbledore its a culture thing, very big no no to name a baby after a living relative, which is a shame because I love Elizabeth. I wish our parents were a little more creative when naming us though.

@moggle we really discussed Eliza but then DSIL got wind of it and its become a funny nickname. We're calling her (imaginary) child Frank to rhyme with her surname. Its gone too far as a joke now, which is a shame. Elise is a very good shout though, something we'd not thought of.

Keep them coming please

Why not Betty? It's lovely, really nice

SuperBeagle · 18/07/2017 23:13

Lily is a diminutive of Elizabeth.

Isabel/Isabella is the Spanish variant of Elizabeth.

You could also have Elle, Ellie, Ella...

buttercup54321 · 19/07/2017 00:19

Betty is lovely

JackfruitMoon · 19/07/2017 05:28

What about using one of its derivatives? Isabel or Elise perhaps?

TheLegendOfBeans · 19/07/2017 05:34

I think Elizabeth has the most derivatives of any name (i read it on the internet so it must be true).

I vote Isobel.

ilivebythesea · 19/07/2017 09:02

I like Betsy, but there's Ailsa, Bella, Elsa, Lisette, Bettina

Backhometothenorth · 19/07/2017 09:33

My middle name is Elisabeth and DNeice's middle name is Elizabeth if that would work for you?

2014newme · 19/07/2017 09:36

I'd use Elizabeth as a first name, it's a lovely name

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 19/07/2017 09:37
