It's become a favourite for us now. I have to say it's not my longstanding favourites though (all of which were vetoed by DH or are now suddenly way too popular). What does it make you think of? DH thinks it's serious, but he's just about willing to use it. I think it's quite elegant. Vintage but not in a bad way.

I adore it.

Sparrowlegs248 · 03/07/2017 22:16

I love it. I had two boys.

You're right, elegant.

GinIsIn · 03/07/2017 22:17

If DS had been DD, he'd have been Clara.

DeepPuddleHorse22 · 03/07/2017 22:21

I know two little Claras.Lovely name

mammabear4 · 03/07/2017 22:22

Absolutely love it, we were between Isadora and Clara for over a week - finally went for Isadora nn Dora (DH was never as keen on Clara) but I still adore it and would use for a second girl. Go for it - beautiful, vintage and not at all common. Perfect combo in my books 😊

I went to school with girl who pronounced it "Clare-ah" instead of, well, Clara. I'm trying to reeducate myself Grin lovely name though.

BenLui · 03/07/2017 22:24

Lovely.

DrablittleCrab · 03/07/2017 22:25

Love it.

I like it - reminds me of a character from the Isabelle Allende novel The House of Spirits - along with Blanca and Alba which I also love.

HappyAxolotl · 03/07/2017 22:41

It's a beautiful name. Timelessly elegant. A little Clara won't be one of twenty-six in her school either!

Lovingitlovingit · 03/07/2017 22:42

It is very popular on here but don't know one in real life

QuantamBaby · 03/07/2017 22:43

Gorgeous name

Lovely

LockedOutOfMN · 03/07/2017 22:48

Really like it. I'm a teacher and have taught several Claras who were all kind, clever and give me a really positive association with the name.

Lemondrop99 · 03/07/2017 23:30

Love it. Was on my girls list

Scrumpernickel · 03/07/2017 23:33

Love it - reminds me of the nutcracker which I adore

'Clare-ah' always used to be the pronunciation in Britain, and I think Ireland too?, and in America I believe it still is. I had an old great aunt with that name, must have been born about 1890 (in Yorkshire). That was the standard way to say it over here at that time.

I think it was reasonably popular in Victorian times. Then it went out of fashion for decades, and when it came back it came in as a name from continental Europe (where they say Clah-ruh). Add one Doctor Who companion, and everyone thinks that that is the only way to say it! People have short memories/are ignorant about this.

Quite like the 'Clah-ruh' pronunciation, but prefer 'Clare-uh' as it is softer, much like Clare/Claire.

Longdistance · 04/07/2017 00:33

It's a cracking name Grin

Hence my username...

Sophronia · 04/07/2017 01:05

I like the Clare-uh pronunciation, but always find KHLAR-uh a bit harsh and hard to say. I know that's the most common pronunciation though.

mygorgeousmilo · 04/07/2017 01:28

I never loved the look of it written down, and hadn't met one, so had no real thoughts on it. Now my son has a Clara in his class and every time I hear it I like it, she's a lovely girl, and the name is clear, smart, elegant and classy. I would put it in the timeless and not overly flouncy name-bracket, along with Emma, Alice, Lucy. Although I think I like it more as it's not quite as popular. Got to be pronounced Klaah-ra though, not Clare-a. Yes, I've got all of that from a name.

Bubblesoup · 04/07/2017 02:03

Love it! It remind of the character in the kids book 'Heidi'

SuperBeagle · 04/07/2017 02:36

I like it, but I do find it (and names like Cara and Lara) quite difficult to say. It's not a natural sound, or something.

Shiori · 04/07/2017 03:50

I love it!

HeteronormativeHaybales · 04/07/2017 07:42

Love it. Classic, simple, elegant, travels well, lovely meaning.
