Elynor or Elinor?

Which spelling do you prefer? Online Elynor has been described as a "creative" spelling of Elinor! I've (almost) ruled out the original spelling of Eleanor. Thanks guys!

Eleanor

Elinor if you think people won't be able to spell it the correct way and you'll have to do it phonetically to help them out.

ScrambledSmegs · 28/06/2017 12:29

When I read Elynor I think of the cathedral town, Ely. Obviously a lovely place but pronounced Ee-lee, which messes with my head a little.

I like Elinor, it's a classic but more unusual spelling in England.

Unadon · 28/06/2017 12:30

Eleanor always.

Twinkie1 · 28/06/2017 12:31

Fyhfsergvxfhn

Because she'll be asked to spell that as many times as the ones you've listed!

GahBuggerit · 28/06/2017 12:34

Arrrrgh why do people do this

Eleanor is fine.

Elynor looks like a kid is spelling the name as it sounds

Elinor looks like someone from Lancashire objecting to the name Eli

thegirlupnorth · 28/06/2017 12:39

Elinor

I was going to use it and pronounce as ell in oar but where I live it's pronounced like ellen-a which I would say if spelt Eleanor.

nuggetofchicken · 28/06/2017 12:41

Eleanor.

MsGee · 28/06/2017 12:43

Or the Italian spelling is Eleonor?

MrsHathaway · 28/06/2017 12:46

I like Eleanor but prefer Elinor.

If I saw Elynor I'd assume the parents intended a different pronunciation (Ee-linor? Eh-lie-nuh?).

TipTop333 · 28/06/2017 12:54

Elinor for me because of Sense and Sensibility.

BreconBeBuggered · 28/06/2017 12:58

My first choice would be Elinor, but wouldn't consider Elynor. At all, ever.

eleanorofaquitaine · 28/06/2017 13:00

Eleanor never Elynor

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/06/2017 13:08

Eleanor

MrsMint · 28/06/2017 13:23

Thanks everyone, I think the majority may be right, the traditional spelling is probably best. I'm coming round to Eleanor again!

Eleanor or Elinor.

Definitely not Elinor just looks like you can't spell sorry.

(also Eleanor was my nana's name and she was beautiful in every sense of the word)

BillywigSting · 28/06/2017 13:27

*not elynor sorry

lorelairoryemily · 28/06/2017 13:36

Eleanor. The others look weird. Beautiful name

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/06/2017 13:47

The "original" spelling is actually Alienor.

Elinor is the most commonly used spelling in Wales.

hollyisalovelyname · 28/06/2017 13:51

Elynor might be pronounced E lie nor.
I'd much prefer Elinor.

MikeUniformMike · 28/06/2017 14:42

Elinor - as in Sense and Sensibility.

BeBeatrix · 28/06/2017 14:47

Elinor - my favourite spelling. The traditional English spelling, although it's now the second most common spelling, so DD will often need to spell her name.

Eleanor - French spelling, but most common, so DD wouldn't need to spell her name very often

Elynor - no, please don't! She'll have to spell her name, EVERY time, and it will still get mis-spelled.

BeBeatrix · 28/06/2017 14:49

Eleanor - beautiful, classic name. The other spellings look totally wrong

Eleanor is actually the French spelling. Elinor is a more traditional way to spell the name in the UK.

Aedie4 · 28/06/2017 14:56

For those saying 'Elinor' is wrong🙄 Not only is it correct it is the preferred spelling in Wales. It would be like saying 'Isobel' is wrong, if you're going to comment on something at least be accurate with it.

MiniMaxi · 28/06/2017 17:01

I prefer Elinor

AliciaMayEmory · 28/06/2017 17:05

Eleanor is a beautiful name. I've never seen the Welsh spelling before, so you learn something new every day. Smile

Please don't use Elynor. I look at it and say El-eye-norr.
