What do we think? I've always liked it -it was my favourite name as a teen, but hadn't seriously considered it for any of my actual babies. But now DH (who never suggests any names) has thrown a curve ball and suggested it for this baby. We can never agree on anything so I feel bound to consider it now!

So what do you all think? And any middle name thoughts? I'd quite like a saints name if there are any that go...

Ah, this was our chosen name if I had a girl this time (currently 28 weeks). I love it as it's unusual but not too strange sounding.

I'm having a second DS so will never use it. I love it though.

indigo13 · 25/06/2017 21:11

I love it

IWantACheeseburger · 25/06/2017 21:11

It's top of my girls name list. Love it.

leannejade · 25/06/2017 21:11

Astrid was on my list if I was having a girl, which I'm not.
If it's something you and your partner like, keep it aside for now as a possibility and see how you feel when your baby arrives.

chumpchange · 25/06/2017 21:11

Always loved it.

BattyBagshot · 25/06/2017 21:13

We can't risk that Leanne, because then we risk not having a name for weeks! But glad to see the initial response is positive.

It's not my favourite, but if you both like it, then definitely go for it!

Nospringflower · 25/06/2017 21:15

Love it!

WellErrr · 25/06/2017 21:16

I like it!

TaggieRR · 25/06/2017 21:16

I think it's lovely

228agreenend · 25/06/2017 21:17

Love it. Unusual but not wacky, and easy to spell.

SuperBeagle · 25/06/2017 21:20

Strongly dislike it.

It's such a harsh, unflattering sounding name, IMO.

Topseyt · 25/06/2017 21:22

I like it. Slightly unusual, but nice, easy to say and spell.

twobarnsmammisonthebus · 25/06/2017 21:24

It's wonderful!

FemaleDilbert · 25/06/2017 21:24

Lovely name

ClaudiaWankleman · 25/06/2017 21:29

I like it. I particularly like the fact it doesn't invite many mispronunciations, even by foreign speakers.

I suppose the only potential problem is a natural shortening of the name is 'ass', but that would never be a serious nickname.

3wayburger · 25/06/2017 21:30

''Tis lovely. I know twins, Astrid and Ingrid

MollyHuaCha · 25/06/2017 21:33

Feminine and strong.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/06/2017 21:33

Love it !

BattyBagshot · 25/06/2017 21:42

Thanks 3way - I worry about the sound of it sometimes, but think Ingrid is great - and more common but very similar sounding, which reassures me!

AstridsMama · 25/06/2017 21:42

Never had my DD called "Ass" so far!
We use Streed, Asti, Astri, Sassa.
Best name ever Smile

BattyBagshot · 25/06/2017 21:46

Thank you Astrid's Mama! Is it ok we have no skandi heritage?!

OP posts:
Nicketynac · 25/06/2017 21:48

We call ours Asteroid (and sometimes Arstid after a range of lamps at IKEA!). She has never been called Ass to my knowledge Grin

AstridsMama · 25/06/2017 21:50

We have no scandi either! No-one has ever commented.

Jooni · 25/06/2017 21:50

Love it! It was on our list for week-old DS if he was a girl.

I don't really know about saints' names... I imagine there's a saint or two for most reasonably traditional/established names.

If you're looking for something with religious undertones, how about Astrid Celeste, Astrid Faith, Astrid Hope, Astrid Gloria, Astrid Mary, Astrid Eve, Astrid Evangeline...?
