Astrid?

What do we think? I've always liked it -it was my favourite name as a teen, but hadn't seriously considered it for any of my actual babies. But now DH (who never suggests any names) has thrown a curve ball and suggested it for this baby. We can never agree on anything so I feel bound to consider it now!

So what do you all think? And any middle name thoughts? I'd quite like a saints name if there are any that go...

Ah, this was our chosen name if I had a girl this time (currently 28 weeks). I love it as it's unusual but not too strange sounding.

Astrid was on my list if I was having a girl, which I'm not.
If it's something you and your partner like, keep it aside for now as a possibility and see how you feel when your baby arrives.

We can't risk that Leanne, because then we risk not having a name for weeks! But glad to see the initial response is positive.

I like it. I particularly like the fact it doesn't invite many mispronunciations, even by foreign speakers.

I suppose the only potential problem is a natural shortening of the name is 'ass', but that would never be a serious nickname.

Thanks 3way - I worry about the sound of it sometimes, but think Ingrid is great - and more common but very similar sounding, which reassures me!

Never had my DD called "Ass" so far!
We use Streed, Asti, Astri, Sassa.

We call ours Asteroid (and sometimes Arstid after a range of lamps at IKEA!). She has never been called Ass to my knowledge

We have no scandi either! No-one has ever commented.

Love it! It was on our list for week-old DS if he was a girl.

I don't really know about saints' names... I imagine there's a saint or two for most reasonably traditional/established names.

If you're looking for something with religious undertones, how about Astrid Celeste, Astrid Faith, Astrid Hope, Astrid Gloria, Astrid Mary, Astrid Eve, Astrid Evangeline...?
