DD is almost 6 weeks - no one likes our chosen name... Haven't registered her yet! I just don't know what to do :( there are lots of threads on the name, but they always get negative replies, so I doubt they end up using it. I love it... My mum isn't keen, but she keeps telling me to use it (in all fairness, she has always said that I should go with what I love) but DP's family hate it. Everyone on here hates it and say that they judge people with that name, so it puts me off. Grace would be the middle name and it's just unfortunate that it's now classed as a filler middle name (I've always loved Grace) but DP doesn't like it, so he agreed to have it for the middle. I suppose it just makes it even worse as it's a known middle name for the name.

I'm literally getting myself so upset over it.

Awh that's disappointing! I was hoping for Madonna or Sapphire.

Madison is fine, very non-offensive.

Aducknotallama · 19/06/2017 22:34

I like Madison and Maddie, chose the name you love and don't listen to anyone else

AppleSmoothie · 19/06/2017 22:34

I would just hate for teachers to judge her behaviour/family before they have even met her, or parents of other children not wanting her to come over when they hear her name. I'm getting all kinds of images in my head Sad

Madison is a nice name, not my personal taste but definitely bugger all wrong with it.

If you love it, go for it and forget about what anyone else has to say!

3littlebadgers · 19/06/2017 22:36

I teach a 3 year old Madison and she is a darling and bright as a button. Smile

SoftSheen · 19/06/2017 22:36

Madison isn't really my kind of name, but it is pretty mainstream and certainly not awful. I would be surprised if it provoked a strong negative reaction from anyone.

PaintingOwls · 19/06/2017 22:37

Use the name, it's lovely, and tell the neg-gers not to be so fucking rude.

DearMrDilkington · 19/06/2017 22:37

If it makes you feel better Madison makes me think of a very well behaved child. It doesn't sound like a naughty child's name.

Sapphire on the other hand, would be a pita.

MiaFarrowsWheelbarrow · 19/06/2017 22:37

My friend's little girl is a Madison (not shortened to Maddie) and it really suits her. I think it's a lovely name for a little girl which will carry her through well as she gets older, not twee or naff at all. If you and your DH like it, and it suits your little one then go for it. As for your family's opinions? Well, you can't please everyone can you? They will get used to it and her name will be a non issue in a years time; they will love her regardless.

Joinourclub · 19/06/2017 22:37

I knew from your first post that you were going to say Madison. It's not a 'MN' name. But it is a perfectly fine name. I really like Maddie. You are never going to find a name that EVERYONE likes, so just use a name that YOU like!!

petitdonkey · 19/06/2017 22:38

Apple - I really don't think anyone would judge her like that. I have a Camilla - everyone hated it as a concept. Everyone loves her, the child so the name is now her name if that makes sense, no-one else I know has any other association any more.

I have only ever met one Madison and she was 18, gorgeous, glamorous and very, very kind.

Frontstep · 19/06/2017 22:38

I think it's a great name. Feisty sounding, interesting without being crazy. I love the nick name too. Go for it!!

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/06/2017 22:38

Not a huge fan but it sounded like it was going to be much worse (like that poor baby that someone is calling Bleu). I think Grace Madison is much nicer than Madison Grace but I'm not the one picking names.

ScarlettFreestone · 19/06/2017 22:39

Madison is a perfectly nice name. I wouldn't put it in the "judgy" category at all.

It's your baby not your PILs. They had their turn naming. You and your DH get to choose for your DD.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 19/06/2017 22:40

Madison isnt a naughty child name

Fact

(Saying fact after comments usually convinces people...fact)

Honestly its a lovely name, i though it was going to be dreadful

Or worse...my daughters name

sticklebrix · 19/06/2017 22:40

OP, I thought you were going to say that you'd called the baby Yoghurt or Poodle or something really outrageous. Madison is perfectly okay. Not everyone's taste, true. But it's very rude of your families to let you know that they dislike it.

If you're very worried about how the name will be viewed in the future, perhaps you & DH could register her as Grace Madison but not tell anyone. Your families must suck it up if, quite reasonably, you want her to be called Madison.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 19/06/2017 22:40

Oh and the onky maddison i know is lovely

DearMrDilkington · 19/06/2017 22:40

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 19/06/2017 22:41

Aww, thank you all! You're making me feel sooo much better. I'm cuddling her now and she suddenly feels like a Madison again 🙈 Grace really can't be her first name, DP hates names like Grace, Hope, Faith, etc. so I was lucky to even get it in the middle Grin

I have taught a couple of Madisons and they've both been lovely. You won't be judged

AppleSmoothie · 19/06/2017 22:43

The threads I've seen are literally from this week. I don't know any in real life though, so I figured people don't really go ahead and use it!

or parents of other children not wanting her to come over when they hear her name

I don't think that this would ever happen. But if it did, they probably wouldn't be the kind of parents you'd want Madison hanging around with anyway.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 19/06/2017 22:47

Madison grace is a lovely name

My mum didnt like ds1 name but after he was born she said 'oh he really looks like a (insert name)'
