Thoughts on Destiny.

Mahogany???? 😲 That's a terrible suggestion.

IhaveaTubie · 19/06/2017 11:39

Mahogany made me laugh 😂

ThanksMsMay · 19/06/2017 14:00

Amaya is beautiful

Mrsknackered · 19/06/2017 16:00

Are people taking the piss? Why are you suggesting 'dark' names?

ThanksMsMay · 19/06/2017 16:33

Because the OP has picked all names that mean something including Ebony.

mintich · 19/06/2017 16:40

Stripper

Mollie85 · 19/06/2017 17:38

In order of preference:

Faith
Ebony
Destiny

What about:

Sienna
Hope
Elodie

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/06/2017 20:22

Ebony Faith is lovely.😄

areyoubeingserviced · 19/06/2017 20:25

Défo stripper or porn star name. Sorry

areyoubeingserviced · 19/06/2017 20:26

Faith is lovely

InvisibleKittenAttack · 19/06/2017 20:36

It's another "no" to Destiny, I think Ebony is nice, classier than Destiny. I can see it working in many different jobs/life stages- you dont get the same preconceived ideas about who Ebony is compared to Destiny.

Faith is pretty and classic, sounds very strong and not "cutesy girl" - woman called Faith aren't for fucking about with.

I don't know if this is something you'd want to factor in, but as a white woman, if I heard the names Destiny or Ebony, I would be expecting both to be woman of colour. I wouldn't assume a race for Faith (although assume Christian parents).

Misspilly88 · 19/06/2017 20:38

Faith is beautiful, and much classier than the other two options from a UK perspective.

user1497888420 · 19/06/2017 20:45

Faith is my favourite, then Ebony.

Destiny is a definite no from me; again, sadly it has lap dancing connotations.

Epipgab · 19/06/2017 20:48

I like Destiny and Faith, and quite like Ebony. Faith Destiny or Destiny Faith would work nicely.

dandeliondelilah · 19/06/2017 21:47

Gosh you lot are rude! Sorry OP.
Both are quite normal names amongst black Britons. There are several of each in my daughter's year group. I don't particularly like either name but then I don't particularly like Olivia or Maisy and there are plenty of them around too.

Thingymaboob · 20/06/2017 13:28

What about Equality? Sorry, it's a joke from Parks and Recreation where one of the characters says if she was to be a stripper, her name would be Equality 😂😜

user1471547428 · 20/06/2017 22:25

I like both Ebony and Faith.
Destiny I probably would like except I've also been to a terrible club with that name.
I also thought someone's suggestion of Evoni was interesting.

"Chavvy.
Imagine that name when applying for a job / university"

Do you seriously suppose a university is going to care?

Thingymaboob · 21/06/2017 12:32

@corythatwas
It's an interesting question I think. We all judge a name when we read it. It's what we have all been doing on this thread and through the baby names forum. We all have associations with names and when people are sifting through 1000s of CVs / job applications, even though people can't discriminate because of a name, they will naturally have associations with different names.
For instance, according to this thread "Destiny" has connotations for many people as stripper / lap dance etc. Similarly, if I saw a name like Quentin Westmorland-Whit I would associate that name as being very posh / private school educated / bit of an arse.

Call your baby whatever the heck you like! 😊... I do love Scarlett or ruby though
