We are really struggling. He's now 4 days old.

  • Oliver (my favourite but I don't like Ollie and it's very popular!)
  • Lewis (for some reason people think it's 'chavvy' (hate that word!))
  • Hayden (same as above! Sad)
  • Robin (I know it's stupid, but it's really unusual in my area and I don't know if I'm brave enough!)
  • Theodore (we really like the NN Teddy but will it just be too difficult in life for him to be Teddy and Theodore on BC? Also, DH says it as 3 syllables! Is it 2 or 3!?)

Any comments would be lovely.

I think Teddy is becoming very popular (if that bothers you)

I don't think Lewis is 'chavvy'

My fav from your list is Robin. Go for it! He can always be Rob/Robby/Bobby is you/he wants something more conventional

Bestseller2017 · 15/06/2017 17:46

I know two Olivers and neither are known as Ollie. That's my favourite of your names too.

Sandsnake · 15/06/2017 17:47

Theodore. I dislike Lewis and Hayden, but just as a matter of personal taste. Oliver will quite possibly be shortened to Ollie as he gets older, and you will get little say in it if he likes it. I quite like Robin but have always considered it slightly 'wet' - though again this is a matter of personal taste and others might think I'm totally barmy!

Congrats on the baby, btw!

Alcea · 15/06/2017 17:48

Oliver is my favourite.

CharlieRosa · 15/06/2017 17:49

@Lemondrop99 I know I'm odd as I said about popularity with Oliver, but for some reason I actually prefer it for Teddy as I know it's quite a marmite name, so if there are lots of other boys with it, there wouldn't be many eyebrows raised!)

@Bestseller2017 how old are they? I feel like when he starts school I'd have no choice!

Theodore
Oliver
Lewis

Robin

Hayden

Would be my order of preference.

Congratulations!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 15/06/2017 17:50

How do you say Theodore as 2 syllables?? Thee-dore?? No. It's thee-o-dore. Love it!

I would DEFINIELY pick Robin

TheWeeWitch · 15/06/2017 17:50

Theodore - Theo, Teddy

Or

Robin

CharlieRosa · 15/06/2017 17:52

He says it as thear (similar to fear) door! I am loving it, but worry that he will always say it like that and confuse him! Although, Ted as a NN

BlondeGinger · 15/06/2017 17:53

Theodore and Oliver are my favourite.
I like Lewis but prefer Louis, pronounces Lewie.

junebirthdaygirl · 15/06/2017 17:55

Robin is a brilliant name. Go for it!

Ankleswingers · 15/06/2017 17:57

Congratulations Flowers

I like Oliver best but like BlondeGinger prefer Louis to Lewis.

My lest favourite is Hayden.

Good luck!

Ankleswingers · 15/06/2017 17:58

least even!!

CurlsLDN · 15/06/2017 18:02

The-a-dore is how it's pronounced though, I can't imagine how you are pronouncing it?

WowOoo · 15/06/2017 18:05

My fave is Robin from that list. Why is it stupid?

Can be shortened to Rob and that is lovely too.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 15/06/2017 18:05

In order of preference:
Lewis
Hayden
Theo (dore)
Oliver
Robin

Sophronia · 15/06/2017 18:05

Robin is my favourite from your list.

Floralnomad · 15/06/2017 18:06

Oliver is lovely , round here if you called Teddy in a park you'd be surrounded by small fluffy dogs .

Firewall · 15/06/2017 18:08

Theodore is lovely. Oliver is ok. Not keen on others, sorry!

MaroonPencil · 15/06/2017 18:10

I love Teddy, was going to call DS Edward with Teddy as NN but DH vetoed it. I would say Theodore with three syllables!

I like Robin very much also. Ted and Rob were Jo March's sons in Little Men, apropos of nothing.

I think Hayden is fine.

Lewis and Oliver are OK too but I find them a bit meh next to the other names.

CharlieRosa · 15/06/2017 18:14

@CurlsLDN that's how I pronounce it. DH pronounces it the way I said he did.

@WowOoo I mean it's stupid for me to think I need to be brace

OP posts:
notangelinajolie · 15/06/2017 18:18

Or how about Edward? NN also Teddy, Ted or even Ed which I love.

My DD's class has and Ed, a Ted, and a Ned (smile).

GinIsIn · 15/06/2017 18:21

Theodore is great, but definitely has 3 syllables?!

CharlieRosa · 15/06/2017 18:22

Sorry I see what I put in the OP. He pronounces it as 2 syllables (the way I said he did later on)

OP posts:
chinlop · 15/06/2017 18:29

Theodore/Theo is easily the nicest name on the list. Why would using a shortened version be difficult? Millions of people do it every day.

Wouldn't worry about your OH's pronunciation "confusing" him either.

I think you're overcomplicating things tbh.
