I'm 39+2 so could have baby any day now. We don't know what we are having but have a couple of safe girls names....boys names are a different story through.

We like a strong Scottish/Celtic name but nothing hard to pronounce or spell.

Euan is probably the the one we both like the most, but I don't like the ambiguity of spelling (Ewan/Euan)

Innes and Struan are both ones that we liked but gone off then liked again. I'm not 100% sure on them.

Callan was a contender for a while but I've gone off of it because I feel it may be confused with Callum a lot OR pronounced Kay-lan

I don't like names that's are OTT Scottish (is that even a thing???) like Hamish, Fergus, Angus etc

So - throw as many as possible at me

I heard of a baby called Cullen recently which may fit. Irish, named after a warrior.

TheImprobableGirl · 06/06/2017 14:41

Hmm... Rory is one I love - there's another way to spell it but I can never manage it - ruaridh? Something like that!

Also Lachlan/lochlan
Dylan if you fancy something a bit Welsh

TheImprobableGirl · 06/06/2017 14:41

Like the name Cullen but id be careful of the teen vampire movement that was Twilight- they are all Cullen's

CoffeeChocolateWine · 06/06/2017 14:42

Fraser or Lachlan?

Lemondrop99 · 06/06/2017 14:44

Euan is lovely, stick with that! Even the simplest names can get mispelled sometimes

AConvivialHost · 06/06/2017 14:45

Murray or Alastair

onemumtwocountries · 06/06/2017 14:46

I love Struan, I know one (in England) and he's ace.

SleepForTheWeek · 06/06/2017 14:46

There's a few Lachlan's round our area - and DH doesn't really like first names that are more associated with surnames which I think of when I think of Cullen. Also know a dog called Cullen haha.

Fraser isn't bad but bad association with someone we know.

It feels like we've been through every name possible.

MN is fairly unknown and Scottish - don't want to say as it will likely put me!

Innes and Struan are so gorgeous! I especially love Innes.

Lachlan is a nice suggestion too.

How about Gregor?

QuestionARhino · 06/06/2017 15:13

Blain/Blaine?

florascotianew · 06/06/2017 15:18

Ewen/Euan is very nice.

These may be too OTT Scottish for you, but are all are easy to spell:

Adair, Athol, Ardan, Colm, Cormac, Dougal/Douglas, Duncan, Fintan, Hugh, Keir, Kelvin, Lorcan, Maxwell, Patrick.

plus good old Andrew, Allan, Kenneth, Robert ....

But you've probably considered (and dismissed) them already.

29Palms · 06/06/2017 15:19

Stuart

SleepForTheWeek · 06/06/2017 15:22

I LOVE Gregor but DH really doesn't like it 🙄

SleepForTheWeek · 06/06/2017 15:23

DH likes Andrew but there's problems with pronunciation of it here....

I taught a Ruari... thought it was Welsh?

MargotsDevil · 06/06/2017 16:34

Ruaraidh is Scottish and pronounced "Roo-ray" - not the same as Rory at all! A bit Confused at Andrew being difficult though!

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 06/06/2017 16:37

Archie, Lachlan, Clyde

SleepForTheWeek · 06/06/2017 17:21

Lovely names there weasel
*
Margot* It's not that it's difficult to pronounce - it's just that the way it's pronounced here really grates one me!!

OP posts:
TheImprobableGirl · 06/06/2017 17:23

Roo-ray and roar-ray... sounds similar enough in my (limited and small) world! I really like Euan, but would spell Ewan- as in macgregor, but I wouldn't worry too much about misspelling- somebody misspelled my daughters name as Poppie a couple of days ago!

I know a few Hugh/Huw's that are celtic?

SleepForTheWeek · 06/06/2017 17:30

Yes I would say Ruaridh and Rory are quite different. I like the latter but DH doesn't.

I also quite like Hugh - but DH doesn't!! (See the problem here....)

HoratioNightboy · 06/06/2017 17:37

I love Euan, which is the current most used spelling so you shouldn't have too much trouble with it.

A few other suggestions:

Alpin
Bruce
Clyde
Colban
Fingal
Iver
Kerald
Kyle
Manus
Nicol
Parlane
Ranald
Sorley
Selban
Ternan
Valan

SleepForTheWeek · 06/06/2017 17:48

Horatio our chosen middle name is on that list. I like a lot of them as they are largely unknown but not sure if some are a bit 'out there'

I know a Logan and think that's a lovely name.
