i love it but i know it sounds a bit childish. Any full names for this so i could make it into a nickname? or any other similar names?

Really like suggestion of Malia shortened to Mali.

I dislike Marnie a lot for some reason, (I did know one who wasn't great though, so my view may have been effected by that a bit).

I don't know about Marley... it could go either way. I think, like pps said, you'd need to be pretty cool to wear it well.

How about Macy? I really like it, though it's not my usual style.

Lucked · 04/06/2017 15:32

I love Marnie and suggested it for DD. Marley is nice and not too out there. Marlie spelling is quite nice but I would assume Marley if I heard it.

mathanxiety · 04/06/2017 18:50

As a BC name to shorten to Marlie or Marley, how about Marlene (as in Marlene Dietrich)?
Or Marliese/Marlies? (A German name)

You could use Margaret too.

I think Marnie is too close to 'sarnie' and 'mardy'. I don't see the attraction of it.

NurseryNightmares · 04/06/2017 20:50

I know a lovely little Mali. I think it may be a Welsh name

ifigoup · 04/06/2017 20:53

You could also get away with it as a shortening of (the French name) Marylène.

BigApple11 · 04/06/2017 20:56

We have a male Marley in our family. He is an extremely cool teen. I may be biased

CruCru · 04/06/2017 21:48

Isn't it the name of Will Smith's character's daughter in I Am Legend?

ChickenBhuna · 04/06/2017 21:50

We had a Marlea when I worked in a nursery. I think it's lovely and it really suited her.

If you like it then you should go for it.

MikeUniformMike · 05/06/2017 20:55

Mali (pronounced Malley) is welsh for Molly.

UsernameInvalid66 · 06/06/2017 17:47

Marley feels more like a boy's name to me but I know a little girl called Marli (all her siblings have surnamey names too).

Longdistance · 06/06/2017 17:50

Marcie?
Marcy?
Marnie?

Would sound better tbh. Not keen on Marley as i know a few people who's digs are called this, I think it's the new Rover.

cherrydels · 06/06/2017 22:04

Thanks for the feedback, i thought more people would be totally against it!

& do you think people would instantly think of Bob Marley? we do love him but not really planning it based on that connotation if you know what i mean.

Someone we know has just called their new baby boy Marley. Didn't realise it was a girl's name. Can't help thinking of that dog on the film!

UsaNayme · 06/06/2017 22:46

I know 2 Marleys named after Bob Marley, so yeah it would be my first thought

cherrydels · 06/06/2017 22:48

usa are they girls or boys? (if u dont mind me asking) :)

My friend has a dd called Imarlee. Pronounced, Im-mar-lee.

ItsNotFairLois · 06/06/2017 23:05

My DSS is called Marley, he really suits it and was named after Bob Smile if you like the name then use it. It seems odd to me seeing girls with the name but that's only cause I associate it with him, my DSD has a name that is unisex but heard more for a boy and it's the same with hers. It's a lovely name and not childish at all

pnguin · 06/06/2017 23:06

I like Marlyn. Could be Marley for short.

Waterfeature · 06/06/2017 23:07

It's awful. Sorry.

cherrydels · 07/06/2017 00:31

I had dinner with a 12 year old Marley last night. She was delightful. I'd say go for it.

UsaNayme · 13/06/2017 01:47

Cherry they're both boys, but Bob would still be my first thought with a girl tbh
