What do you think of the name Richard- deadly dull or due for a come back?

We were talking about this the other day, funnily enough! I like it. It's classic and rather smart (without being an "old man's name")....and very unusual these days.

MrsELM21 · 03/06/2017 09:53

Love it!

LexieLulu · 03/06/2017 09:56

It's my husbands name and he doesn't like it if that's anything... I like it tho

Herestonevergrowingup · 03/06/2017 09:57

Bit staid and ordinary for a young child. Don't mind it for an older man.

Nospringflower · 03/06/2017 09:58

Dick has a shortening isnt good.

SuperBeagle · 03/06/2017 10:05

The Dick potential is grim, but the name itself is fine.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/06/2017 10:06

I like Richard (Richie).

ButtfaceMiscreant · 03/06/2017 10:08

Love it. It's a well used name in my family, and my husband's, and had it not been my brother's name I would have had it very high on my list, and probably used it myself.

AroseforEmily · 03/06/2017 10:09

I know a baby Richard, I thought it was a bit old fashioned when I first heard it but now it suits him.

AutumnGlitterBall · 03/06/2017 10:09

My BIL calls himself Dickie, to the in laws' great annoyance. I know a couple of other Richards who go by Richie or Rick(y) though.

Argeles · 03/06/2017 10:12

I like it - it's a good, solid name. I think of dependable gentlemen when I hear it.

I think it'll make a refreshing change from Arthur, Alfie etc, which are lovely, but very popular.

Lemondrop99 · 03/06/2017 10:38

I think it's classic. I don't know any Richards who go by Dick these days, so get shortened to Rich.

villainousbroodmare · 03/06/2017 10:44

I like it and know a few; Richie, Dick and Richard all in their 40s to 60s and one pleasant 12yo Richard.

UsaNayme · 03/06/2017 10:54

I know a 21 year old Richard. No nicknames, he's just Richard

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/06/2017 13:10

My nephew is Richard (Richie) Richard when he's naughtyGrin

RuthB4 · 03/06/2017 14:23

I like it a lot!

plimsolls · 03/06/2017 14:25

I like it. I met a baby Richard the other day. Richie is a cute nn

PaperdollCartoon · 03/06/2017 14:25

Perfectly acceptable normal name. Not used so much now but certainly not dull.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/06/2017 14:45

Lovely name, and Ricky for a little boy is adorable

MammieBear · 03/06/2017 14:47

I like, makes me think of the film in the 90's Ritchie Rich. Its a good name with a lot of history don't worry about the Dick Nn potential no child would think of that without parents input, plus I do think think it's that bad (think Dick Van Dyke) he didn't do so bad........ Grin

eachtigertires · 03/06/2017 20:45

I know a 13 year old named Richard, nn Ricky. Lovely kid, nice name. Go for it!

squoosh · 03/06/2017 21:24

Rich and Richie are fine but Richard to me is a bit, 60 something married to Jan, drives a Rover and thinks Nigel Farage should be given a knighthood. But I recently met a baby Clive (!) and Richard is way better than that.

Sophronia · 03/06/2017 21:25

I like it, and would like to see it make a comeback. I do know a 5 year old Richie but that's his full name.

IStoleThisUsername · 03/06/2017 22:28

Lovely name. There was a Richard at toddler group when ds was small - he was the cutest little boy with curly black hair and almost black eyes. I'll always associate the name with him.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 05/06/2017 12:18

My dh is Richard. I really like it. He's Richie to his uni mates but mostly just Richard!
