What do you think of the name Richard- deadly dull or due for a come back?

Lovely, proper man's name

Mrsknackered · 05/06/2017 14:31

I would feel sorry for a baby called Richard. Apologies!

Epipgab · 05/06/2017 15:23

I like it. It's a traditional and royal name, due a comeback IMO.

Obviously Dick as nickname is a no-no, but I doubt many of the younger generation will think of it anyway (the name isn't Ditchard after all...) but Rich and Ricky are both fine.

It would be unusual in a good way.

I came across a Rick today, definitely due to come round again!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/06/2017 15:27

DH's name. He goes by Rich - the only person allowed to call him Dick was his mum, nobody else has ever used that when he's introduced himself so I wouldn't worry about that. I like it.

Baby Clive. I've just melted. That's so adorable.

Dichard Grin

I like it a lot, it was on my shortlist for DS1 but not for DS2, as DS1's actual name begins with R too.

I wouldn't worry about Dick. Younger Richards tend to get called Rich if they get called anything at all for short, in the same way that Will, Rob and Ed sound younger than Bill, Bob and Ted.

Baby Clive. I've just melted. That's so adorable.

Stop that melting right now! I do not want to meet any more baby Clives!

I like Richard, it deserves a comeback. Richie is very cute.

I just can't picture a baby Clive though Grin

Mclaren37 · 09/06/2017 06:44

Father In Law. It's a no.

Costacoffeeplease · 09/06/2017 06:57

I know two and both are well-named as they are complete dickheads

29Palms · 09/06/2017 10:52

Richard is a classic name with plenty of variations and nicknames, so it's very adaptable. I like it a lot.

For those who always bring up Dick (so to speak), that is a very old-fashioned nn for Richard, and I've rarely encountered it in anyone born after about 1950.

grufallosfriend · 09/06/2017 11:05

Richard is a good solid name.

Much more teaseworthy is William with Willy! Yet people still name their boys William Confused.
