Irish boys names?

Can anyone recommend Irish boys names that aren't countdown conundrums and can't be easily pronounced by English people?

I quite like Cian (key-inn) but DH doesn't. Something short and sweet

Senan and Dara are quite popular among my kids friends at the minute. I know they're not C names. Conall floats about too, I have a secret longing for Cathal Grin

I know an Irish couple with a little boy named Cashel. I'm not sure how routinely it's used as a name but I think it makes a lovely name.

Not my cup of tea but Declan, Dermot, Lochlinn, Emmet and Brendan meet your spelling criteria. A bit longer but Setanta is also easy to pronounce.

I like lots of the C names already listed. I wouldn't say Conal is pronounced as written though, it's more a U sound - Cunn-ill.

Jarlath is pronounced almost as written "jar-let" with a softer T than let but not as breathy as a TH. It's pretty awful in my opinion and not widely used.

Have never heard of Cashel as a person's name.

SuperBeagle · 02/06/2017 03:57

I like Patrick. Smile

sycamore54321 · 02/06/2017 03:59

Also Gerald and Gerard. Kevin. Columba for a longer C name. Seamus might be well enough known not to cause spelling problems?

Some nicknames strike me as almost exclusively Irish even if the full name isn't - Christy (Christopher), Gene (Eugene), Gerry/Jerry, Shay...

sycamore54321 · 02/06/2017 04:13

Brian. Enda. Noel or Pascal - not Irish in origin but I've never met one without Irish connections, usually born at Christmas and Easter respectively. Eoin or Owen. Neil. A bit more unusual is Ardal.

Peadar or Eanna at a push on the pronunciation front.

This is fun... I don't even particularly like some of them but thinking about the spelling is strangely pleasing to me.
