Irish boys names?

Can anyone recommend Irish boys names that aren't countdown conundrums and can't be easily pronounced by English people?

I quite like Cian (key-inn) but DH doesn't. Something short and sweet

So many lovely names! My DHs family is from Cavan but I'm English and find some of the names difficult as I automatically try to read them phonetically

Not cathal, one of my fave names but English people can't say it right, comes out as Karl

I have a cillian, English people call him sillian when they read it but easily correctable

Eoin is the same as Owen (as spelt eoghan)

Apachepony · 02/06/2017 07:38

Cuan (coo-in)
Luan

(More unusual ones)

Bobojangles · 02/06/2017 07:40

Also spelt eoghan that should say

sycamore54321 · 02/06/2017 08:58

Jarlath - the end is more as if you have a lisp. A sort of 't' with an 's' sound rather than a proper English TH. But it is definitely pronounced, not silent.

WankersHacksandThieves · 02/06/2017 14:00

I have a Ciar.

I know a Se (accent on the e to give Shay (also an option)

or Shane?

I really like Cormac though.

Chelsea26 · 02/06/2017 14:25

Is fionn pronounced Finn?

SenseiWoo · 02/06/2017 16:29

Con?
I love Garrett and Cashel too.

squoosh · 02/06/2017 16:38

Is Cashel being used as a boy's name now? That's a new one on me.

squoosh · 02/06/2017 16:39

Is fionn pronounced Finn?

Technically it's pronounced F'yun but in reality a lot of Fionns pronounce it as Finn. Irish spelling with anglicised pronunciation.

Never straightforward! Grin

RossGellersteeth · 02/06/2017 16:40

I live in Ireland and I've never heard the name Cashel.

Bluebeedee · 02/06/2017 16:45

The Fionn I know pronounces it
Fee-yon

Think he's from limerick

CalpolOnToast · 02/06/2017 16:47

I know an Irish Olan, plus a lot of the others mentioned. We did go with Cian given the same criteria Grin

rachyconks · 02/06/2017 16:48

I have a Rónán. He is gorgeous and suits his name so well. I love the meaning of it (little seal). On my list were Sé (though can be spelt Shay), Lorcan & Oisin.

LiveLongAndProspero · 02/06/2017 16:49

Is fionn pronounced Finn?

No it-s fee-yun and its never like Finn.

leighdinglady · 02/06/2017 16:52

Oh now I like Fionn even more!
