Which do you prefer? No other variations or spellings considered.

Lauren, pretty uncommon amongst little ones but still a "normal" name.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/05/2017 19:26

Sophie has been my "this is what I will call my daughter" name for as long as I can remember. I still love it, and so does DH (win!), but I've also just decided I really really love Lauren.

I don't know whether I'm having a boy or a girl, but Laurence is on my boys list. It has made a big impression on me!

DS's name begins with J, both Sophie and Lauren sound lovely alongside his name and our surname.
I've got something else lined up for a middle name which works with both names.

Oh and baby is due any day Confused

Sophie is lovely.

Nothing wrong with Lauren, but it just can't compare.

DakotaFanny · 22/05/2017 19:33

Agreed, both lovely but Sophie is timeless and Lauren puts me straight in the late 90s....which isn't necessarily a bad thing!

Kikibanana86 · 22/05/2017 19:34

Lauren is a bit plain imo Sophie isn't the most exciting name in the world but it is pretty and classic.

tessiebear4 · 22/05/2017 19:35

YY Sophie is timeless

peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/05/2017 19:37

I think my name is considered an 80s/90s filler name, but I'd place it in the same category as Sophie and Lauren in that it's kind of "nice" and "safe" and, idk, not timeless as such, but classic? I knew one Lauren growing up in the early 90s, but lots of Lauras.

Definitely Sophie.

jellyandsoup · 22/05/2017 19:47

Sophie, Lauren is very dates, and as a person with a name that was at least 20 years "out of date" when I was born I would say it's no fun having a name that people only associate with people much older than you.

Charlottenburg · 22/05/2017 19:48

Sophie. Lauren is so 1993.

GRW · 22/05/2017 20:37

My neighbours have a 4 year old Lauren and there is a 15 year old in the same road. I think it's nicer than Sophie.

buttercup54321 · 22/05/2017 22:28

I love Sophie xx

Puffinsareblackandwhite · 22/05/2017 22:30

Is your name Sarah OP?Grin

DramaAlpaca · 22/05/2017 22:31

Another vote for Sophie.

Thesofaneedsmetositonit · 22/05/2017 22:36

I think Lauren suits an adult woman more than Sophie sometimes does.

JoWithABow · 22/05/2017 22:37

I think if you name your baby Lauren it won't matter if a few people associate it with the 90s - as soon as it's your child's name they'll just associate it with you/your girl.
There are so many Sophie's/Sophia's at the moment - in 20/30 years time that name will probably remind everyone of the 2010-2020 era so you have that problem either way.
Both are lovely op, if it's a girl come and update the thread and let us know which one you went for, and good luck with the birth

peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/05/2017 22:42

Hahaha not Sarah, but a very close family member is Grin

Sophie. Lauren is lovely but NN Lou - I wouldn't want my DD to be called toilet

ProseccoPoppy · 22/05/2017 22:42

I really like Sophie - lovely classic name. I don't dislike Lauren, nothing wrong with it at all but I personally prefer Laura. To be honest you'll not go wrong with either of them. Good luck!

allthatnonsense · 22/05/2017 22:45

Lauren is very dated and a bit Essex.

Sophie is a classic, but a bit boring. My daughter has a classic but boring name.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/05/2017 23:02

I've never heard of Lauren being shortened to Lou. And Essex??

OP posts:
almosttherenow · 22/05/2017 23:30

Sophie, a beautiful name. Sorry to sound like an awful person but I tend to agree that Lauren can be a bit 'Essex', and it is very 90s (not classic).

SuperBeagle · 23/05/2017 06:47

Sophie.

I went to school with a million Laurens. It's quite outdated now. And Lauren always gets shortened to Loz/Lozzy, which is grating.

devondream · 23/05/2017 06:52

Sophie ... I am one. It was pretty unusual back when I was born (early 70s). Have always loved having a classical name Smile.

Lauren sounds rather modern and more likely to date.

MollyHuaCha · 23/05/2017 07:03

Sophie
